Stan and Jan Berenstain introduced the first Berenstain Bears books in 1962. Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents work together to write about and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too. Though Stan died in 2005 and Jan in 2012, Mike continues to create the delightful Bear adventures from his studio in Pennsylvania, in an area that looks much like the sunny dirt road deep in Bear Country.

Fitzysmom5 Stars Out Of 5Review from Rambles of a SAHMMay 20, 2015FitzysmomQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5If you've ever been privileged enough to be a part of a small town Fourth of July celebration then you are going to enjoy sharing this book with your littles. The lovable Berenstain Bear family is back and they are about to celebrate America's birthday with their friends and neighbors.
A celebration in Bear Country wouldn't be complete without food and festivities. As the family prepares for the parade by decorating their bikes and trying on old military uniforms a wonderful discussion ensues about the birth of America. When Sister asks "You mean countries are born like babies?" Papa gives a recap of how our beloved country was started and the sacrifices made by brave men and women.
As the Fourth quickly approaches I urge you to read this book with your kiddos and then take it a step further and find a celebration near you. Everyone needs to experience a small town Fourth of July celebration. Parades, pie eating contests, cake walks, potato sack races and then the grand finale . . . fireworks! Our freedom was hard fought and won. Go enjoy it!
I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
Mama CallieAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Another Wonderful Read for All Ages!!April 13, 2015Mama CallieAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I don't believe that you can ever go wrong with a Berenstain Bears story book and this one is no different.
The kids and I really enjoyed one of the newest books that we reviewed, The Berenstain Bears in God Bless Our Country.
The story is fun and lovable as all the other stories written by the Berenstain family. I would like to note that this book is plainly written from a Christian point of view and the story even speaks about that fact that Bear country was founded on Christian principles. A huge A+ from me on this aspect of the book. I noticed that the book is considered a Living Lights book, which states that this Berenstain Bear book is to help children learn how God wants them to live every day....and I think it is wonderful!
The pictures are bright and colorful which makes reading this to younger children so much fun. Their little eyes are drawn to the beautiful pictures and it makes it easier to keep them still long enough to read the words to them. As a mama to littles, I appreciate that the pictures are still as engaging as they used to be.
This book takes us through the Bear Country history as the Bear family gets ready to celebrate the Fourth of July. It is a well written story that shows how faith was involved in the creation of their country, a wonderful representative of how the United States was founded the same way. We see the family participate in numerous patriotic celebrations and how pride in ones country is fostered in the young bears.
In the back of the book there are some questions to ask your children, to help with comprehension of the story. There is also a nice addition of two activities that your children can do. And the most fun, there is a set of 16 stickers for the kids to use in the middle of the book.
We all enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more of these Berenstain Bear books from Mike Berenstain.

Of course I haven't read all of the new ones so that may change.
I remember reading these wonderful books when I was a kid... of course that was when Stan & Jan were writing them... and I am thrilled to see that their son Mike loved the books so much, he has continued with the very series his parents loved so much!
Thank you and God Bless you Mike! It is wonderful to have this amazing series continuing so that I can share the stories with my own children.
No one should miss this wonderful book! Mike has truly captured the style that made his parent's books in this series famous with children everywhere!
And this particular story - well, it could have been a tough one to translate into "Bear Country" speak... but Mike did an exceptional job! He gets the major points across in a way that makes learning about history FUN for kids!
Don't miss this book. And be on the lookout for more from Mike Berenstain! I know I will!
