Author Bio

Stan and Jan Berenstain introduced the first Berenstain Bear books in 1962. Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents work together to write about and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too.  Though Stan died in 2005, and Jan in 2012, Mike continues to create the delightful Bear adventures from his studio in Pennsylvania, in an area that looks much like the sunny dirt road deep in Bear Country.

Berenstain Bears are at it again. This new 5-in-1 book would be a beautiful addition to your bookshelf. The theme and message can't be beat: caring and sharing lessons we need to teach our children at a young age. Brother, Sister and Honey Bear are here to help teach your youngster. However, if you have the stories individually don't rush out to buy this same stories just all bound together. This book will go in my classroom library for sure.

The Berenstain Bears Caring and Sharing Treasury is a collection of 5 books in one hardcover book. All of these books focus on ways to make us better, and how we can help around our world. This is a great book to read with any age child, as they will learn no matter what! Even I learned a little something about sharing and being nonjudgemental through these books. I grew up with the Berenstain Bears so this was fun for me to read as well.

The first book is Jobs Around Town. In this story Brother and Sister Bear travel around town discovering all new types of jobs. There are doctors, farmers, bank tellers, and so much more. This is a great conversation starter with your kids. You can describe all the jobs you see on a daily basis around your own town, and explain to your child how every job is just as important as the next. I love the nostalgia I felt while reading these books with my son. We also had fun pointing out the fire trucks, cement mixers and all the other fun machinery.

The next book in this collection is The Berenstain Bears Get Involved. This story is about how Brother and Sister bear belong to the Cub Club, and in this club they get to do fun things like play basketball, sing, put on plays, and paint. Not only does the Cub Club do fun things, but they also volunteer to help other bears in Bear Country. They do things like clean up the playground, bring food to people that need it, and fix things around town. Soon their good deeds come in handy when there is a major flood in Bear Country and the town has to come together. This story was sweet and teaches kids that they can help too, and when they do help it makes a big differences.

After that, is The Berenstain Bears Love Their Neighbors. This story starts off with all of the bear neighbors, and tells us how much the Berenstain Bears love each one of them. Except for one. The Bogg Brothers. Since they live in a run down shack with many animals, and are loud and obnoxious, the bears claim they are a disgrace ( I dont know why but this didnt sound like something the Bear family would say, but Im not going to read much into it.) One morning the Bears drive to town to go to the festival, and on the way the radiator breaks in their car. Soon all of their neighbors drive by and call out their good lucks. Finally the Bogg Brothers show up and offer to help the Bear family. I enjoyed this book the most, I think it is a wonderful lesson to teach children. Just because someoneoesnt make a lot of money, or may not have a nice home, doesnt mean that they are a bad person. The nicest people come in all shapes, sizes, and economic situations, dismissing a person because of how they look is a disgrace.

Next is Gossip Gang. This story centered around Sister Bear and her best friends Suzie and Lizzy. When the girls start gossiping back and forth, Sister doesnt understand that what she hears could be wrong, and could also hurt some other bears feelings. Then Sister Bear hears her best friends gossip about her behind her back, and she finally understands why gossiping is wrong. This was a cute story, and definitely something that children and adults can learn from.

Finally, the last book in this collection is The Berenstain Bears and the Biggest Brag. Brother and Sister Bear were good at a lot of things, school, sports, and music as well as many other talents. They knew they were good, but the fact that they sometimes bragged about their good fortune got on Mama and Papa Bears nerves. Soon, the battle between who is best gets to be a little too much for Brother and Sister when they start to argue about who can see the farthest in the sky. I think this was my least favorite book. I felt the ending was silly, and it didnt really solve the issue, but other than that it was cute.

I may have gone way too deep into the Berenstain Bears, but since I used to read this as a little girl, when I saw this book offered on Book Look Bloggers I had to get it. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. My son adored it, I loved it, it was a great time and something that you can read in pieces, all at once, or again and again.

The Berenstain Bears Caring and Sharing Treasury was sent to me by Zonderkidz - a division of Zondervan Publishing free of charge, in exchange for my honest review.

Caring and Sharing Treasury is another childrens picture book, in the Berenstain Bears collection. This one is a collection of five stories. Mike Berenstain took over for his mom and dad in writing and illustrating this series. I love the Berenstains, and have been reading them since I was a little girl. I read them to my boys when they were little. And, now I read them to my grandchildren. I look forward to the day when my grandbabies read them to their own children. They have always taught good manners and morals, and now they include Gods Word in them. They also include questions to talk about and ways to put what theyve taught into action.

In The Berenstain Bears Caring and Sharing Treasury we see five different stories in one book. The first book is Jobs Around Town which teaches the cubs that God gives us all different talents. They explore different times around townlike an astronaut, an engineer, a farmer, plus many others. The second book is Get Involved. The cubs are in a club where they do lots of fun things, and also learn how to help others. One of the things they did was help with building a barrier of sandbags in town when a rainstorm came. The third book is Love Their Neighbors. They went through their neighborhood admiring all the fancy, elite house. They had one neighbor, though, who lived in a rundown shack, who they didnt like. They had a problem that all of the elites just ignoredOnly one neighbor came through for them. They learned that things arent always as they seem. Gossip Gang is the fourth book. In it they learn that gossip hurts and, when someone is gossiping to you about someone else, theyre probably also gossiping about you to others. The last book is The Berenstain Bears, and The Biggest Brag about boasting and bragging.

I really like this book and would recommend it to young readers and those who read to and teach them.

Maybe I am an isolated case, but I did not grow up with the Berenstain Bears. When my kids were little, we did have a few of these books, but they never grew to be huge fans of these books. As I have the chance to read and review this 5-in-1 collection of books, I have a good opportunity to look at it from a different perspective than previously. Additionally, I have an objective opinion, because as I said, I do not have much of a history with these books.

This is a hardback binding collection of 5 of the Living Lights stories by the Berenstains. The five titles are: Jobs Around Town, Get Involved, Love Their Neighbors, Neighbor in Need, and Gossip Gang. As I looked around on the web, I see most, if not all of these available in individual volumes. The nice thing about this collection is the ability to have multiple stories in the one volume instead of separate. Really that is about the extent of the update I believe. I am not positive all of these volumes were released individually, but I have found at least part of them.

The single volume edition is more cost effective than buying individuals, and the fact this edition is a hardback is also a plus. I feel this volume will last quite nicely. Inside the book, the illustrations are all typical of the Berenstain Bears artwork, and the stories are all good for teaching moral lessons.

My overall impression is this, if you have these books individually, don't upgrade to the single volume. If you have 3-4 of them, consider keeping your individuals and you money. However, if you have less than three of these stories, this is a great investment. I am glad I got to look it over and check it out for myself. That being said, I still am not a huge fan of the Berenstain Bears, simply because there are other series I prefer more. I don't dislike them, but they are just not what I would consider irreplaceable additions to your child's library.

Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book from BookLook Bloggers for review purposes in exchange for a fair and honest review of the material contained. A positive review was not required and all thoughts on the book are my own.

This is a cool idea 5 books in one! A collection of stories bound in a hard covered book. Well worth the read and the price is great. These are new stories for a new set of children. I grew up with them and even watched their movies. Great lessons such as not boasting and bragging, gossiping and how to love their neighbor. Good book for preschoolers.

This is illustrated by Jan and her son Mike, presumably after Stan passed away several years back. Bible verses are added to the stories so parents can build on this foundation to teach the lessons the child will grasp from each story. A must for all house holds.
