Dana has already learned that love isn’t safe . . . but could it be different in Rock Harbor?

As a 911 dispatcher, Dana Newell takes pride in being calm in tough circumstances. In addition to her emotionally-charged career, she’s faced enough emergencies in her own life. She recently escaped her abusive fiancé to move to tranquil Rock Harbor where she hopes life will be more peaceful.

But the idyllic town hides more danger and secrets than it first appeared. Dana is continually drawn to her new friend Boone, who has scars inside and out. Then she answers a call at her job only to hear a friend’s desperate screams on the other end. This review was written for Beneath Copper Falls.
Beneath Copper Falls by Colleen Coble was just riveting with a capital R!! OK, the references to Phantom of the Opera and fan-favorite, The Princess Bride doesn't hurt either. However, I also think even without those references, this book is sublime as it comes to suspense. Add a good dose of inspirational context in the message, it had me turning the pages in record speed.

"We are not told to decide who or who will not benefit from the words that point to life. We are just to be faithful with our lives and our words. If the Holy Spirit prompts you, then be faithful to what he has told you." (157)

The message of faith and trust amidst tragedy is strong, but there's a certain tenderness the author displays when it comes to our character's internal struggles with their emotional as well as physical scars.

"The scars don't define you. Who you really are inside is what matters." (144)

I haven't read any of the Rock Harbor novels in the past. I came on Colleen Coble's band wagon much too late. If the others are anything like Beneath the Falls, I'm in for sure. I didn't think I missed anything when reading this installment, so definitely doable as a standalone piece. I would love to read further about the other characters I've met in this one, especially Bree and Kade's story.

When it came to suspense, it's deep and well twisted in the plot to not give away too many clues. I did think of the possibility of the culprit, but deep down, I was hoping this person wasn't it. Though it didn't come on as a surprise, I did stare in disbelief at the outcome of one character (spoiler - hightlight to see) that died. Then there's this. I started this story late in the evening, and I wished I didn't. Possibly because I had quite the scary dream (quite similar to the storyline) afterwards. Yes, you've been warned. I think for a suspense novel that had such an impact, that is quite a thrill.

In all, Beneath Copper Falls lives up to its genre, great suspense, but also add in such profound insight in its message, it's for sure a must read. Then we can't negate the romantic thread associated with it, can we? With lines that links The Princess Bride and Phantom of the Opera, I think not.

    (Regarding Phantom of the Opera)

". . . but I just love the way it portrays love as lasting a lifetime. Both men loved Christine all their lives, but one with an obsession and the other with a love that wanted what was best for her. . . I want to make sure I know the difference." (83)

I do want to leave this final quote with you, because it's a reminder I don't ever want to forget.

"We are far from helpless. God hears all prayer, even silent ones. It is the biggest power we have. . ." (158) (2 Timothy 1:7)

When Dana Newell moves back to her home town of Rock Harbor, she thought she'd be starting over, free from her abusive fianc. However, there are many secrets and dangers she wasn't aware of in her hometown. As she tries to help her new friend Boone unravel the mystery of his sister's murder, they find more questions than answers. Will her ex-fianc finally leave her alone so she can move on with her life? Will they be able to find the murderer before he strikes again?

Colleen Coble has written another amazing story! It will keep you on the edge of your seat from page one. The suspense grabbed me from the very beginning and kept me guessing until the very end. While this is a part of the Rock Harbor series, I have not read any of the rest of the series and I didn't feel lost, so it definitely can stand alone. So what are you waiting for? Go grab your copy and get started, you will want to read this one!

**I received this book free from the publisher through the Fiction Guild program. I was not required to write a positive review and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Ah. Colleen Coble. Can't go wrong with her romantic suspense novels. In this latest installment, we revisit Rock Harbor and all the wonderful characters like Bree, Kade, Laurie, Mason, and the gang. This book can be read as a stand-alone. But if you've been following Bree and Kade's life and adventure, it's nice to see them settled into a wonderful family routine.

The setting of Rock Harbor, especially in the winter and the snow storms, is a chilling backdrop for a great suspense novel. Ms. Coble's writing is fast-paced and the anticipation of "what will happen next?!?!" totally keeps the pages turning well into the night. The twists and turns in the story really took me for a roller coaster ride.

Boone is a successful outfitter and an ex-smoke jumper who's given up on finding love due to his scars from a work-related injury. His emotional scars run very deep and he can't seem to climb out of his bitterness and isolation.

Dana is a sweet-tempered and loving woman returning to Rock Harbor after a rocky relationship. She reconnects with Bree and Boone's cousin Allyson as the plot literally thickens and she's thrown into danger.

The path to forgiveness and belief in the omnipotent, omniscient, and loving God is riddled with self-doubt, fading memories, and fresh hurts but this path becomes smoother for both Boone and Dana as they walk it together.

I recommend this book for anyone who loves Christian romantic suspense.

I received ARC of the book from Thomas Nelson via NetGalley. I was not required to write a review or write a favorable review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

I received this book from The Fiction Guild. I was not asked to give a favorable review. All I can say is wow. This is a wonderful continuation of the series. It has so many twist and turns with this story but keeps the strength of each individual available to figure out who does the killing in this book. I couldn't put it down when they started figuring out who the killer was and surprised me in the end. But I love that each of them brought their strengths to help investigate the death that occurred and looked into other same crimes. Colleen writes such wonderful books that they draw you in from the beginning to the end. I look forward to more from this series.

Beneath Copper Falls is another addition to the Rock Harbor collection. Three words describe this book: so much suspense! Colleen Coble does it again with intriguing characters and a power packed novel. I loved Boone and the way his tender heart is hidden beneath his hurt. Scarred for doing his job, he's battling the urge to care for another woman after Esther broke his heart. Dana Newell goes from one bad relationship to defending herself against a killer and she doesn't even know she's doing it.

Colleen Coble weaves suspense and romance wonderfully in Beneath Copper Falls. The action was consistent and every page had me wanting another.
