"Bestselling author Coble elevates her already-considerable suspense chops with this [new] book of the Rock Harbor series." --Publishers Weekly

Dana has already learned that love isn’t safe . . . but could it be different in Rock Harbor?

As a 911 dispatcher, Dana Newell takes pride in being calm in tough circumstances. In addition to her emotionally-charged career, she’s faced enough emergencies in her own life. She recently escaped her abusive fiancé to move to tranquil Rock Harbor where she hopes life will be more peaceful.

But the idyllic town hides more danger and secrets than it first appeared. Dana is continually drawn to her new friend Boone, who has scars inside and out. Then she answers a call at her job only to hear a friend’s desperate screams on the other end. Soon the pain in her past collides with the mysteries of her new home—and threatens to keep her from the future she’s always wanted.

Colleen Cobles latest suspenseful tale is also a welcome return to Rock Harbour which is a series that I have read some but not all of the available titles.

911 dispatcher Dana Newel has returned to her family home after escaping an abusive relationship. But she soon realises that sometimes that even in the most tranquil of settings can still not fully protect us from the outside world - as the very things she ran from have followed her here.

This was a truly suspenseful tale with lots of twists and turns - there seemed to be multiple possible baddies and just the right amount of romance as well.

The setting was also magically rendered - vivid description so that you could almost feel the chill of the air and the frozen landscape. Very atmospheric.

Recommended reading especially on a cold, rainy weekend curled up by the fire of course.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via The Fiction Guild, and was not required to post a positive review. The opinions expressed are my own.

This review was written for Beneath Copper Falls - eBook.
Beneath Copper Falls is a fast-paced mystery, suspense, and romance all crafted into one story. It centers around Dana Newell, a 911 operator who escapes an abuse partner and returns to Copper Falls; and Boone Carter, a local man still trying to come to terms with the brutal murder of his sister. Together, they try to make sense of a string of murders, and whether or not they are connected to his sister's death, or to Dana's violent ex-fiance.

I really enjoy Colleen Coble's writing, and I really enjoy reading suspenseful books. The characters were well-developed and likable (at least the ones who were meant to be likable) and it was easy to root for Dana and Boone. The story moved quickly, and built in intensity right up until the climactic finale.

My one real gripe is that I figured out who the killer was halfway through the book. It didn't completely stop me from enjoying the rest of the book, because I still got to see how it all played out. However, it was very frustrating to know more than the characters, and at certain points I wanted to yell at them, "How can you not see who it is??"

Overall though, it was a well-written, fast-paced read. I just wish I hadn't solved the mystery SO much sooner than the characters.

4 stars- I have only read a few of Colleen Coble's books and I won't lie, they have been a bit hit or miss for me. I admit I was a bit hesitant to read this one, but I must say that I really enjoyed this book. It is book seven in the Rock Harbor series but is its own story. Characters from previous books are in this story but you don't need to know their history to follow this one.

I thought the story was realistic in the sense that the characters led everyday lives and the things that happened to them and the choices they made didn't strike me as highly unlikely or crazy. I felt that Boone and Dana were believable characters and I liked them both. The author did a great job of creating a suspenseful story that kept you guessing without making everything seem way too over the top or extreme. I thought the choices (most of them at least) the characters made seemed plausible and I liked how the author gave you just enough to keep your mind wondering about characters' motives. This was a well-crafted, suspenseful novel that kept me reading way too long past my bedtime. I think I may take a look into reading the other books in the series so I can learn more about Bree and the rest of Rock Harbor.

I received a copy of this book for free. I was not required to post a positive review and the views and opinions expressed are my own.

Colleen Coble's Beneath Copper Falls is an intriguing story of murder and mystery that stretches from Washington state to Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

The story is filled with interesting characters, including several who are involved in and work with search and rescue dogs. A variety of characters pop up as potential murder suspects before the story starts to turn toward the real criminal. As a word of caution to potential readers, there are a lot of dark moments as the mystery plays out.

Colleen has written several other books in the Rock Harbor series. If you have read those, you will already be familiar with many of the characters and their stories. I had not read any of the others and found no problem with this as a stand-alone.

Thanks to BookLook Bloggers for providing a copy of this book. I am happy to share my own thoughts in this review.
