Regina Jennings offers "Her Dearly Unintended," where friends stranded by a rising river pretend to be newlyweds when a dangerous stranger arrives.

Mary Connealy's "Runaway Bride" finds a Texas ranger getting more than he expected when he rescues a young woman fleeing a dangerous arranged marriage. I received With This Ring? book as a gift from one of the four authors, and I thoroughly enjoyed each story. How wonderful to get 4 great stories in one book.

I especially loved Runaway Bride by Mary Connealy as it included characters from two of her book seriesstories and characters I remembered fondly.

For me, the bonus to this group of novellas is that I could sample the writing of authors I had heard of but not read before. Each story was well told and I will be looking for more books by these authors.

So, I highly recommend the book, With This Ring? I found it to be a great read.

I have to say beforehand that Ive never done a review for a book of novellas, therefore this is my first and I hope everyone enjoys it! A common thing I loved about these stories is that I recognized some to most of the characters from the author's previous books. However, even if you have not read those books, you still can understand the stories. The first story The Husband Maneuver by Karen Witemeyer was one of my favorites earning 5 stars from me! I think one of the reasons I loved it so much is because I remembered them from A Worthy Pursuit and there wasnt ever a conclusion to Daniel and Mariettas love story like I wanted and I finally got it. It was a very sweet read and different from most novellas. It didnt drag on and take forever but it also wasnt so fast that it caused confusion. The second story Her Dearly Unintended by Regina Jennings earned 3 stars from me and sadly was my least favorite story out of the four. At the beginning I thought it might be better than it ended up being, I enjoyed the fact that Josiah was protective of Katie Ellen and it was a cute story but at times the characters seemed a little immature and the tale ended quite abruptly for my taste. The third story Runaway Bride by Mary Connealy was another favorite of mine earning four and a half stars from me. This was also another story where I enjoyed seeing the connection between books. I enjoyed everything about it except for one thing, the characters, Big John and Carrie became very stubborn for a brief time about their feelings for one another and in a novella that isnt something I enjoy immensely. As I said, it was brief considering it is a short story but thats what in the end, lowered my rating of this one a tiny bit. Now for the fourth and final story Engaging the Competition by Melissa Jagears earned four stars from me and was also a cute story that I enjoyed. Harrison and Charlotte were both likeable characters and really there werent any specifically negative things to this one. All and all it was a good novella collection and I enjoyed them. My overall rating for this book is 4 stars and I do recommend it to anyone who love a sweet, quick, historical romance! I was provided a copy of this book by the author/publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.

This is an absolutely delightful collection of novellas by Karen Witemeyer, Regina Jennings, Mary Connealy, and Melissa Jagears. They are all some of my favorite authors. All of these novellas have connections to novels the authors have written. It was such fun to read the "Dead Eyed Dan" dime novel story at the beginning of each chapter of "The Husband Maneuver," Karen Witemeyer's follow up novella to "A Worthy Pursuit." Regina Jennings' "Her Dearly Unintended" brought us a story focused on Josiah Huckabee, who we met in her novels "A Most Inconvenient Marriage" and "At Love's Bidding." In "Runaway Bride" by Mary Connealy, we are reacquainted with Big John Conroy, plus the other Regulators, Luke, Dare, Vince, and Jonas, plus their wives from the Trouble in Texas series. As a special treat, we even meet up briefly with the Kincaid brothers and their wives from The Kincaid Brides series. To wrap up the book, we have Melissa Jagear's novella "Engaging the Competition," which is a prequel to her novel, "A Heart Most Certain." If you enjoy historical romance, you won't want to miss this collection, especially if you've read other works by these authors.

This was a very entertaining collection of stories. I was thoroughly entertained with these proposals gone awry. From Texas 1879, to Kansas 1901, there are enough laughs and gasps to go around.

I love reading novella collections because it gives you a taste of the author's style. The love of reading does have a lot to do with finding a book, genre, author "to spark your fancy". I went several years without reading much because I was trying to force myself to read a style that I just wasn't interested in. Now, I have read more in half a year than I typically read in several years put together. I have read several books by Mary Connealy, but this was my first taste of the other authors. I can honestly say that I am looking forward to reading their full length novels now. Very humorous and sprinkled with faith. This novella collection is the perfect combination of stories for any reader who loves a good western romance.

The Husband Maneuver by Karen Witemeyer

When ranch foreman Daniel Barrett seems ready to leave her life forever, Marietta Hawkins decides to grab the reins on their relationship. But to have any hope of maneuvering him into a proposal, she has to act fast or risk losing him completely. My thoughts: Daniel was a gruff man, very unkind and mean in some of his actions. I really didn't see what Marietta saw in him. Hardworking, yes, but who wants to live with a mean grouch all her life? I think Marietta was infatuated with the man behind the dime novels more than the man himself. I did admire how honorable Dan was though and how intent he was to keep promises he made. 3 stars.

Her Dearly Unintended by Regina Jennings

Josiah Huckabee just wanted to make sure Katie Ellen Watson was safe, but when the only bridge to her farm is washed out, the two find themselves alone. Alone, that is, until a menacing stranger appears. Maybe by pretending to be newlyweds, they'll save their reputations--but can pretending to be in love turn into the real thing? My thoughts: This was an adorable story. I couldn't help but fall in love with Josiah! Silas got on my nerves right quick, and his identity came as a complete surprise. Katie Ellen had some control issues to work through. A really adorable story that held my attention all the way through. Loved it. 5 stars.

    Runaway Bride by Mary Connealy

Hired to help Carrie Halsey escape from a dangerous man intent on making her his wife, Big John Conroy never expected the job to interrupt his solitary Texas Ranger life. But now that he's promised to keep Carrie safe, he discovers he may just want to make a few more promises. My thoughts: Classic Mary Connealy, this story starts out with a crash and with a series of mishaps and nonstop action, it doesn't let up. Like an old wild west tv series, it came complete with gunslingers and hired guns. Unlike the old westerns, the women are just as strong as the men. Great story, nonstop adventure. 5 stars.

Engaging the Competition by Melissa Jagears

Harrison Gray and tomboy Charlotte Andrews have been rivals for years. With Charlotte intended for someone else, it seems they'll never settle their differences until an accident changes things completely. When Charlotte breaks Harrison's glasses--without which he's nearly blind--she must help with his teaching position, and working together forces these former adversaries to reconsider everything. My thoughts: I've only read one of Ms. Jagears' stories, a novella, so I was anxious to see what her story telling is like. I fell in love with Harrison. Even though he was almost blind, he was an awesome hero. Charlie was like none other, and sometimes she made me mad, but that is the marks of a good storyteller. Definitely enjoyed this story. 5 stars.

I love these collections Bethany House and Revell and Thomas Nelson have started putting out and this was a good one. 4.5 stars for the collection. A great line-up of historical romance novellas for the avid reader.
