EmilyAnne285 Stars Out Of 5Absurd and AmazingJuly 11, 2017EmilyAnne28Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Wallflowers are underestimated. So says Permilia Griswold, who is secretly the writer of the gossip column in one of New York's magazines. She sees everything from behind the scenes, even using disguises from time to time. She's quirky and sweet, and when she uncovers a plot to murder a particularly annoying (and handsome) young man, Permilia decides it is time to step in.
Behind the Scenes was clever and funny. I adored it. It kept me laughing and loving the characters. There is truly nothing like Jen Turano's novels, and I eagerly await each one's publication. Behind the Scenes is no exception.
What can I say about this book? The quirky characters were lovable and show so much wonderful development. The plot was intriguing. There was never a dull moment, and the mystery kept me guessing. The historical details added depth and pulled my interest even more. There were so many reasons I loved this book that I have a hard time choosing one to highlight. Perhaps the wonderfully absurd situations that made me laugh every time? The ridiculous and absurd can be underappreciated as a reason for laughter, but I love it so much!
I highly recommend Behind the Scenes, and I recommend it to fans of historical romance.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. All opinions are my own. -
Sandra Burson5 Stars Out Of 5Wonderful ReadAugust 8, 2018Sandra BursonQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I love Jen Turano. She has to be my favorite author. My daughters too. I can't wait for her next book, and this one was no exception. She grabs my attention and I hold on until the last page. I find myself, several times laughing until tears come. My daughter and I often challenge to see who can finish her book first. My only complaint, there is too many months until her next release. ;-)

KimP5 Stars Out Of 5A Delightful ReadJanuary 30, 2018KimPQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Behind the Scenes by Jen Turano is the first book in the Apart from the Crowd series. Jen has created another laugh-out-loud masterpiece. Miss Permilia Griswold is one of the ladies of the wallflower section. Not having been taken in by high society Permilia listens for tidbits of information that she can use in her Miss Quill society gossip column. Overhearing a murder plot is not what she had in mind and losing her slipper only puts her in more danger. Since, Mr. Asher Rutherford isnt taking her warning seriously she takes it upon herself to watch his back. This book was a delight to read. You get a glimpse of the 1880s high society, with a light touch of romance and suspense. The storyline keeps moving until the very end. I cant wait for the next one!
I received this book from Bethany House publishers in exchange for my honest review.

Debbie WilderSalinas, CAAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A laugh-out-loud funny historical romantic comedy!December 27, 2017Debbie WilderSalinas, CAAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This wonderful book is filled with an incredible cast of quirky characters! I love both of the main characters especially. Many of the names are so unusual that just saying them out loud put a smile on my face. I have no idea how the author came up with them.
Miss Permilia Griswold has found her own way to make her life more tolerable. She has even found a way to feel that she is contributing to the world. I was extremely amused by her antics. It was very clear from the beginning that she was in a very real sense a fish-out-of-water. As the story progressed more and more information is revealed as to how she was thrust into such an awkward position.
Mr. Asher Rutherford is truly considered one of the highest level of those in high society. He is keeping his own secret that he feels would ruin that standing if it ever got out. I think that his choice of who to have as his closest friend brought me much amusement.
The plot of the story is delightful. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this marvelous story. I was kept guessing about many aspects of the suspected danger Asher was in simply because of the twists the story took.
I received a free copy of this book from the author. I have chosen to write this review to express my personal opinion.

ShannahAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5This was such a delightfully refreshing read.June 15, 2017ShannahAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This was such a delightfully refreshing read. I was intrigued with the wallflower aspect of the story since we dont often get to read stories regarding ladies on the fringe of society. With Jen Turanos customary wit, hilarious dialogue, and daring plot lines, this book is sure to please all of her fans.
The characters were so different from any that Ive read in her previous novels. Permilia Griswold is not what one would consider a high society miss. Her charm lies within the fact that she knows shes not ever going to attain a proper lady status, and she doesnt care. I also liked Asher Rutherford immediately. He is different from any of her other heros, but just as charming and endearing. Their courtship follows what Jen is known for and is extremely entertaining. The ending took me by surprise, though! (I wont spoil it for you, dont worry!)
Sprinkled liberally with a message of Gods will and timing, this book is entertaining from beginning to end. I highly recommend it to any of Jens fans, and anyone who enjoys a light-hearted, hilarious historical Christian romance.
(P.S. I cant wait until November for Gertrudes story!)
