"My testimony can be summed up in one phrase: God's way is rarely easy, but it's always better than mine."

Being a mother was a dream that Lauren Bailey had continually dreamt since high school, but after embarking upon the unconventional pathway of international adoption, her decision required large amounts of money, unwarranted scrutiny from others, increased tension with her family and an incredible amount of her time. The only remaining caveat? . . . . and it was a big one . . . was that she remain single through-out the first year of parenthood. No problem there. . . Lauren was happily single . . . . until an attractive, irresistible T-Rex charged into her life.

"Before I Called You Mine" is deeply evocative, the kind of story that ultimately has the potential to define its author; the raw authenticity is stunning; injecting a blend of gentleness and fearfulness that so often surrounds our faith. It's responding to God's call to trust Him . . . no matter what, and to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that we "aren't powerful enough to mess up God's plan".

I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. The opinions stated above are entirely my own.

I love everything that Nicole Deese has written but this might be her best yet. From page one you are sucked into a story line that captures your heart in every way. This book is so well written I really couldn't get enough and I don't understand why it had to end! I laughed (Joshua might have entered into the top hero list), I cried (this is rare for me), and I stayed up way to late to read it from start to finish. This story holds all the emotions so be prepared. I LOVED that this story was not predictable. I LOVED that Nicole wrote the unexpected. I LOVED the beautiful way she portrays what it means to honor God even when it is hard. I LOVED the romance it was perfection. I LOVED the real life family dynamic that is dealt with in Lauren's life. I LOVED the adoption story that made me cry. This is hands down one of the best contemporary novels I have read. If you haven't picked up a Nicole Deese novel please do. You won't be disappointed.

    Five stars.

Oh, my heart. This book is golden. I felt every high and low that Lauren felt in such a beautiful and bittersweet way. Her story is a great one and I'm so grateful Nicole has shared it with us. And Joshua is ALL OF THE RIGHT THINGS.

More than a romance or an adoption story, this book is an honest love letter to anyone who feels God urging them to trust Him regardless of what it looks like. I highlighted an exceptional amount of quotes, including this gem: "That maybe the very things I've been so afraid to say yes to all these years are the very things He wants me to trust Him with." Those words were so needed by this heart. I love it when Christian fiction entertains AND ministers.

Do NOT miss this one, friends. It's such a great book.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel via NetGalley courtesy of the publisher. All expressed opinions are my own.

An invisible red thread connects those destined to meet, regardless of time, place or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break. Ancient Chinese Proverb

There are so many wonderful things about this book, you simply have to read it for yourself. I found myself laughing, wiping tears, yelling at individuals and absolutely loving the whole thing. Every good story deserves a fabulous ending and you will not want to miss that thread that never breaks.

(Please excuse my grammar - the site will not let me use apostrophes or quotation marks!)

Quote from the book: We arent powerful enough to mess up Gods plan. Can we deny it? Yes. Can we delay it while we chase our own way? Absolutely. But sometimes our character needs time to catch up to our calling.

This story had me feeling all the feels! I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster ride with Lauren, through the anticipation, excitement, and heartbreak she felt during her adoption journey. Ms. Deese did such a great job of introducing us to the characters, slowly letting us see more of their motivations and hearts, making them deeply engaging and relatable.

Joshua was such a swoon-worthy hero - seemingly a perfect match for Lauren, except for the timing of when they met, making her question the calling she thought God had on her life. I loved that the story centered on adoption; that is such an important topic to see portrayed realistically, especially in faith circles. It all added up to an engaging, impactful story that I finished the book in 48 hours; I just had to know what would happen! This was the first book I have read by Nicole Deese, but it definitely will not be the last.
