If you ever wrestle with that out-of-control inner ogre that threatens to destroy the divinely beautiful princess hidden within, this witty and wise book is for you. With simple, practical tips for taming that nasty, unsightly beast, you’ll discover how to transform its unattractive snarl into inner and outer beauty—refashioned, revitalized, and renewed.
Debora M. Coty is a popular speaker, columnist, lifelong Bible student, internationally published freelance writer, and award-winning author of numerous books, including Too Blessed to Be Stressed, and More Beauty, Less Beast. She’s also an orthopedic occupational therapist, writing instructor, and tennis addict. Mother of two grown children, Debora lives and loves in central Florida with her husband, Chuck, and desperately wicked pooch, Fenway.
Award-winning author Debora Coty's newest book More Beauty, Less Beast brings humor and lightheartedness to the issues all women relate to in heavier moments. With wit and empathy, Coty addresses common body issues, our obsession with aging, and what God might have to say about it, all by helping readers laugh at her own story and share in the lessons she learned. With refreshing insight, she shows us a different perspective of how biblical, godly characters face their circumstances.
Each chapter is an entertaining and enlightening read and concludes with more serious questions for us to ask ourselves - to cement the lessons Coty brings home. More Beauty, Less Beast is about experiencing greater healing, joy, peace and beauty in life - both within and without.
"True beauty has nothing to do with dress size," says Coty. "I want readers to learn how to increase their confidence by conquering guilt, achieving personal goals, overcoming worry, and reinventing themselves through hope."
With the wit of Erma Bombeck and the wisdom of Dear Abby, Coty weaves a practical handbook into a fun, easy read. Patsy Clairmont calls Debora "delightful...invigorating". Readers living in a culture steeped in worldly values will find More Beauty, Less Beast a valuable guide as they face struggles common to us all.
"More Beauty, Less Beast is both spiritual retreat and much needed makeover, complete with one of my favorite aerobic activities - belly laughing!"
--Shellie Rushing Tomlinson, Belle of All Things Southern and author of Sue Ellen's Girl Ain't Fat, She Just Weighs Heavy!
"Deb Coty is funny and wise. This is my favorite combination in any human being."
--Rachel St. John-Gilbert, author of Laugh Yourself to Sleep and The Well Lived Laugh
"In More Beauty, Less Beast, Debora Coty creatively and hilariously helps us tag that inner beast we all battle, then gives us practical ways to muzzle and tame the brute."
--Rhonda Rhea, Author of How Many Lightbulbs Does It Take to Change a Person?
"More Beauty, Less Beast, will revolutionize your thinking about the who, what, and how of beauty and fashion...Debora Coty is funny, insightful, and beautiful inside and out. And you are too!"
--Martha Bolton, Emmy and Dove nominated writer, author of 84 books of humor and former staff writer for Bob Hope
"Embrace the realities of flab, chuckle at the dubious joys of growing older and exercise those abs with giggles as you read a much-needed reminder that God gives us every tool for true beauty and doesn't mind if we want to accessorize anyway."
--Cindy Sigler Dagnan, Speaker & author of Hot Chocolate for Couples
You will want to keep reading to the end and will return to this book often.
In addition, you'll want to check out Debora Coty's other devotionals, EVERYDAY HOPE (Barbour Books 2009) and TOO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED: INSPIRATION FOR CLIMBING OUT OF LIFE STRESS-POOL from Barbour Books August 2011).
You will learn so much from reading this helpful book. The pages are filled with interesting topics like friendship between women, forgiving others, remembering to not judge the outward appearance of another and even taking the time to know yourself better.
Each topic discussed is related to learning how to accept who you are in Christ instead of comparing yourself to others. As we concentrate on Christ and put Him first, our priorities come in line with what He wants us to be.
I read through this book in one evening, as I could not wait to get to the next chapter and learn more. The authors’ sense of humor really makes this book fun to read. You will relate to many of her stories and examples. Reading this book will help you grow closer to the Lord!
This book is hilarious! Prior to being contacted by Barbour Publishing to review this book, I was not familiar with Ms. Coty. Now I will be keeping an eye out for her titles! If you’re looking for a fun read or a gift for a favorite girlfriend, look no further! I am quite sure both of you will love it!
MO Serenity1 Stars Out Of 5Couldn't make it past the first chapterAugust 22, 2016MO SerenityQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1All I can review is the introduction and the first chapter. I couldn't force myself to read any more than that. This book is aimed at people who are full of themselves, materialistic, and NOT Christ centered. The author gives our Lord a pet nickname, Papa God, and refers to Him thus throughout the intro and first chapter. I couldn't do it and it is definitely not anything I would want to encourage my girls to read.

Are you turning into the vain beast from "Beauty and The Beast" ? Are you the female version of Kyle Kingsbury from Alex Flinn's "Beastly" ?
With Deborah M. Coty's new book "More Beauty, Less Beastly" , you will be taught how to not only transform your outside into looking the beautiful stunning person you are meant to be but also how to more importantly transform your inner self as being Beautiful is meaningless unless you have a great personality and a beautiful inside.
This book is an easy read - separated into 3 larger unit sections containing smaller chapters of about 7 pages. The sections focus on outer beauty, inner beauty, and beautifying your world. Reading one of these chapters could be an inspirational start to your day! Questions to prompt additional thought/action on the day's topic appear at the end of each chapter. Topics like "maturing gracefully", "building confidence", and "forgiveness", and "marriage" are related with optimism, terrific humour, and personal stories. Every topic is also told with a view of how our Lord would view His children as they obsess over relationships and appearances.

Favorite Christian BooksCovina, CAAge: 45-54Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Beauty without the Beast A WinnerApril 8, 2012Favorite Christian BooksCovina, CAAge: 45-54Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Review Summary: Let me just start by saying I found this book both funny and encouraging. And overall, I could related to what the author was saying. I'm not a typical girly girl that gets excited about purses and shoes. So some of her examples leave me rolling my eyes. However, when she got to the third section where she broke down the fruit of the Spirit she really got me. She did a great job of driving home key points that I believe scripture is trying to teach us. This would be a great book for personal devotion and I think it would be a kick to use as a Bible study.
Digging Deeper: As I said the first section was tough for me, in that, I'm not a typical woman, growing up on a farm with no brothers I was expected to work hard feeding cattle and hauling wood. But I the first section titled "Outer Beauty" the author looks at many of the traps that ensnare women, such as judging by appearances or Maturing Gratefully. Each chapter begins with verses of encouragement and ends with suggestions on how to tame the beast that lives within so many of us.
The second section the author moves from the outer beauty to the inner beauty. And really hits hard the crux of the matter that in the big picture it's the inside that really matters to God. Here she deals with overcoming adversities in our lives as well as dealing with our self-esteem and guilt that we women tend to carry.
In the section she refers to as the undergarments is the fruit of the Spirit working in our lives. And thankfully she equates God's fruits to fruits we recognize not pieces of underwear! Yes, I realize as I'm sure the author does that Galatians says the Fruit of the Spirit, not fruits, but I feel that she through scripture leads in God pleasing growth.
Finally in section four, she reminds us of the importance of making a difference in our world. She through the eight chapters will make you cry and laugh, but even more importantly think. How can I make a difference in the world around me.
The only potential downside to using this book as a Bible study is the fact there are 34 chapters. However, the chapters are short and at times you could probably cover two chapters a week. However, if you don't mind an extended time I could see how this book could enrich the lives of a group of women drawing them closer to God and each other.
Disclaimer: I want to thank the publisher for the opportunity to review this book. The only obligation I was under was to give my honest feelings about the book.
onedesertroseSt. Paul, MNAge: 55-65Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Transforming Your Inner SelfApril 5, 2012onedesertroseSt. Paul, MNAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4Debora Coty, in her book, More Beauty, Less Beast, reaches into every area of your life to allow the Lord access and transform you into more of a beauty and less of a beast. Debora is transparent in her book to show you her own life, worts and all, and how God is changing her every day she allows Him to. She doesn't say it's painless, but it's worth every second of your life.
Debora's style truly is a lot like Erma Bombeck, with humor that makes us sometimes laugh at ourselves and get back up and start over. Yet she is tender and comforting as she encourages you to get back up and start over. Her stories lend an understanding to the concepts she is expounding on. I found this to be a very enriching book to read over again to gain more insights.
Debora teaches on four basic subjects, but they delve much deeper than one would think:
Outer Beauty-judging, flab, waists, behavior, maturing, fleas, confidence
Inner Beauty-God's standard, spiritual retreat, discernment, adversity, goals, conquering guilt, call-waiting
Undergarments by Fruit of the Spirit (Not the Loom!)-love battlefields, lifer, stress-p00l, patience, queen, silk ribbons, fragrances, melted earrings
Beautifying My World-friendships, forgiveness, chocolate, weirdness legacy, encouragement, the real thing, ogre transformation
Debora's opening Scripture for each chapter resonates throughout each chapter. And as a re-cap, she has a ââ¬Ëtaming the beast' set of questions that make the book personal.
I would love to have a woman's Bible study based on this author's book. The ââ¬Ëtaming the beast' questions could be the starting point for a good discussion, with a chance to encourage each other in their transformation and trials.

From He & Me retreats (time spent with you and the Lord), ice cream and I-Scream guilt (there are 2 kinds of guilt!), the BARF technique (real and effective!) and Monkees concerts (my absolute favorite chapter- bring Kleenex) I learned, laughed, cried, and prayed all the way through this book and my heart was changed for the better. Debora Coty shares personal (and often very funny- I laughed out loud many times!) stories that every woman can relate to. I even read chapters with my 14 year daughter as I just had to share the experience! I feel like I've made a new best friend in Debora M.
