Denis Frediani1 Stars Out Of 5Avoid this book!September 7, 2013Denis FredianiQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1I have to say that Baptism in the Early Church by Everett Ferguson is the most disappointing book I have purchased in a very long time! Based on his Backgrounds of Early Christianity I thought this book would be well written. I WAS WRONG! His ââ¬Ëscholarship' is completely biased. I actually was so shocked and disappointed that I went to check out the school where he teaches and found that my fears were well founded. This book is written to defend the doctrines of the Church of Christ and to prove baptismal regeneration. Sadly, because of this bias, he uses poor hermeneutical principles, neglects essential, and I would add definitive passages that would completely negate his arguments (such as Acts 10:44; 19:2; Eph. 1:13) and reads teachings into passages that simply aren't there. This book is so poorly done that I am now considering getting rid of my copy his Backgrounds of Early Christianity for rear that I has these biases that I have missed. This book is a total looser. I won't even keep it on my shelf. If you want a large paper weight or doorstop then you might want to buy this book, otherwise I strongly recommend that you avoid it completely!
David Turpin5 Stars Out Of 5March 20, 2010David TurpinExcellent book! Not too technical, yet academic enough to gain a full understanding of how baptism originated and developed throughout church history. Good price and would highly recommend it for anyone's study.
