The dream/reality connections are interesting, as well as seeing the examples of lucid dreaming techniques. I liked seeing how two people tried to dream the same dream. The protagonist's fear of bank vaults was also interesting, especially for a bank teller.

Tell us a little about yourself.  Dr. Karen Petit, the author of BANKING ON DREAMS, was born in Providence, Rhode Island. As she grew up with her six brothers and two sisters, she continually loved reading and writing. Five months after graduating from high school, she got married and had two children before getting a divorce. While continuing to raise her children, Karen started to attend the Community College of Rhode Island. She then transferred to the University of Rhode Island, where she was a full-time student and mother, as well as often being a part-time employee at different jobs. She received her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees from the University of Rhode Island. Not only did Karen learn about the theoretical aspects of writing through her education, but she also learned about the practical aspects of writing while teaching for over twenty years at many of the colleges near her home: the Community College of Rhode Island, Bristol Community College, Massasoit Community College, Rhode Island College, Worcester State University, Quinsigamond Community College, Bryant University, Roger Williams University, New England Institute of Technology, the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, and the University of Rhode Island. As a current employee at the Community College of Rhode Island, Karen enjoys helping others to write, as well as participating in different writing activities herself. Besides writing novels, she has been writing Website content, poetry, and academic documents. She also has been a presenter at multiple academic conferences, including the CCCC Conference in 2005 and the NEWCA Conference in 2013. Karen’s son, daughter, and son-in-law have been the focus of her dreams and reality for many years.

What was your motivation behind this project?  When writing BANKING ON DREAMS, Karen wanted to show how dreams and reality are connected to each other. She also wanted to show how we can better remember and even improve our dreams with the use of lucid dreaming techniques.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  Karen hopes people will not just dream their dreams, but that they will also maintain control over their dreams and make their best dreams become reality.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  BANKING ON DREAMS is Karen Petit's first novel. Even though she had always thought about writing a novel and trying to get published, she had never attempted to do so until she was over 55 years old. By writing BANKING ON DREAMS, Karen learned that she was capable of writing a novel and being published. When she received the acceptance letter from her publisher, she actually cried real tears of joy.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is Karen's main source of inspiration.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  Banking on Dreams is a suspense/romance novel that connects dreams to reality. The protagonist, Lisa Reilly, is a bank teller who is scared of the bank vault. Through her journey to control her fears, she experiments with controlling both her reality and her dreams. Lisa has fun with her friends at work and in ballroom dance settings. She illustrates different lucid dreaming techniques when she tries to dream, including when she tries to dream the same dreams as a potential boyfriend. The dream symbols of this novel include Christian, romantic, psychological, and sociological elements. Readers of Banking on Dreams will enjoy learning about how to improve their own dream lives while seeing how Lisa improves her dreams, as well as her reality and her self-esteem. Dream elements, ballroom dance culture, and bank activities are pulled together into an interesting story that is appropriate for all audiences. While there are some romantic scenes, these scenes most often take place within ballroom dance settings and contain no overt sexual activity. There are no "four-letter" words in Banking on Dreams. Its sentence structures, punctuation, and other style elements nicely illustrate correct English usage.
