I actually got this product through another company's monthly STEM program for 3-5 yos, and my 3 yo daughter loves it. She enjoys helping me find the correct parts on the diagrams in the accompanying book, and putting them together correctly, with assistance. When we're done building an automobile, she plays with it for awhile but eventually takes it apart and makes all sorts of her own designs - whatever her imagination comes up with (one creation the other day was declared a "pretty bird" then became "The tree that God made for us to eat from...not like Adam and Eve who were very bad and ate from the bad tree, mom!" And finally, that same creation became an airplane we could use to visit her little friend who just moved away. The next day, she was making "cakes"; another day: cars of the futuristic type ;) The pieces can be difficult for her to take apart, but she's getting better at it after having been shown a few techniques (twist and pull, push a little piece out with a dowel, etc), and I'd rather they fit stiffly together than come apart too easily. I also suspect they may loosen a touch over use. So far, a whole week's worth of (at least) half hour independent play times every day, plus parental help in making the actual models!
