Andy Bannister has written a page turner of a

missive, as it were. The great thing about this book is that Andy was able to recast seemingly difficult questions from atheists in terms of novel situations, in the process pointing out the glaring flaws in atheistic presuppositions and argumentation. Can't reccomend this book enough.

The Atheist Who Didnt Exist by Andy Bannister takes the reader on the exploration of questioning people who claim to be atheists. I like how each chapter begins with a humorous little story before diving into the seriousness of this subject. A must read to help prepare oneself in dealing with a friend, co-worker, or stranger that claims to be an atheist. I received a copy from the author and publisher of The Book Club Network in exchange for an honest review.

Review Title: See Through Smoke and Mirror Arguments (review of The Atheist Who Didn't Exist by Andy Banister)

    Reviewer: Janice S. Garey

    ***** 5 Stars

The author, Dr. Andy Banister, gives insight and background, interspersed with humor, regarding the variety of arguments used by atheists to put down people's faith in God. The book fascinates with its subject and approach which although making the arguments of the atheists appear nonsensical, it never ridicules the atheists on a personal level.

Dr. Banister uses some fictionalized passages to add a level of absurdity to further illustrate methods of wrong thinking used in some of the arguments. The author's use of the device is quite helpful and entertaining at the same time.

While reading, I found numerous passages that I wanted to share with others. A young man at a retail establishment saw me reading the book, and it opened up conversation. It is the right book for this time to capture the interest of seekers, agnostics, and even atheists who will want to see what is said about them. It's a wonderful book to generate discussion among different age groups, cultures, and for any group trying to understand how to better reach out to those who have fallen under the influence of the new type of atheists.

I thank the author, publisher, and bookfun.org for giving me this book in exchange for an honest review. It is truly worth reading for its intellectual and spiritual value along with its wit.

For those of you who are not familiar with Dr. Andy Bannister, you should be. Whether youre an atheist or Christian or anything else, his wittiness and sense of humour alone are worth the bantereven if you dont come to agree with his intensely straightforward logical reasoning and sharp comedic jabs to lighten the mood. Ive seen him debate live as well as give lectures, all of which have been tremendously lively, enjoyable, educational and challengingall the while retaining his own peculiar style of British quip and quirkiness. Id say that reading this book feels like apologetics written in the style of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Dr. Bannisters book does a great job at pointing out the failures of the presuppositions which people approach the question of God and religion. Often when someone proclaims that they believe in reason not religionthat reason is Kingwhat is actually meant is that my reason is on the throne (p. 206). However, something which becomes very clear, especially from scripture, is that there is no neutral ground. We all live by faith and must put our trust in somethingchapter 10 does a great job of outlining this fact. The last chapter (11), outlines the centrality of Jesus and the Cross in history. Jesus and the Cross of Christ confront us, stopping us in our tracks of rebellion against what we may hope is not therebut it forces us to a decision in one way or the other. Bannister leaves the question poignantly at the end of his book, Deep down, I have a hunch that we all know, really, that the deceits we need worry most about are not those allegedly littering the pages of history or even theology, but the lies the softly spoken, intricately woven half truths we tell ourselves about ourselves. (p. 232)

I cannot recommend this book highly enough! I obviously have not fully represented Dr. Bannisters arguments here, since Id like to leave some reason for you to buy the book! But, I hopefully have titillated your curiosity enough to seek further inquiry. Whether youre an agnostic, atheist, Christian or other religion, I think all will find it very thought provoking, interesting and enjoyable read which may just poke you in some sore spots in a much needed way. This is a great introductory book to apologetics if youve never really delved into the topic before, or for even the seasoned apologist it would make a great addition to your library! Dr. Bannister has obviously put a lot of thought and research into this book, and it is very well written, a delight to read, fresh and much needed for our time!

The Atheist Who Didnt Exist by author Andy Bannister is a short paperback book with 11 chapters. It is a quick read but definitely packed full of thought provoking information and humor. This Apologetic is good for Christians, Seekers, or those self-proclaimed Atheists. The author has a nice, easy style of writing. The chapters flow right along. It is about a serious subject and broached with humor. Sometimes he used a little too much humor for me. The author uses time old questions, their weak rebuttals, then better answers and scripture to back it up. He tackles science, atheists, and their belief or rather unbelief. It is an interesting book to say the least. I am not sure what I expected but this was a very different Apologetic. I would recommend reading it and sharing it. Everyone knows someone who would benefit from reading it. I rated it 4 out of 5 stars. A copy was provided by The Book Club Network for my honest review.
