She kept me going back and forth between suspects while never giving the murderer away. The end was a total surprise to me!
You have to pick up a copy of this entertaining book to find out who killed a man everyone in town despised. Tyson Colton, a greedy Englischer who was buying all the stores from the Amish, was found dead in the kitchen of the Swissmen Sweets candy store. That was the only store he couldnt buy. What was he doing in the kitchen after everyone had gone to bed anyway? Jebidiah and Clara King owned Swissmen Sweets and lived above the store. Their English granddaughter Bailey, who was a chocolatier in NYC at a very famous store and vying for the head chocolatier job, had come to visit because Jebidiah was in poor health. None of them heard anything going on in the kitchen below.
Who killed Tyson Colton? Surely not Jebidiah, hes Amish. The sheriff believes Jebidiah put Bailey up to it. Plus, she found the body. Did she kill Tyson? Could it be Eileen Hutton whose daughter was engaged to Tysons son? She certainly wanted her daughter married into that wealthy family whether her daughter did or not. Then there was Tysons son Jace. He wasnt the least bit sad that his father was dead. He despised him too, and now everything belonged to him!
I know youll enjoy reading this well-written book and trying to figure out which of the many townspeople killed a man everyone was glad was dead!
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
KavRCanadaGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Awesomesauce!September 11, 2017KavRCanadaGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Nothing like combining the lure of chocolate with a great cozy mystery to get me drooling! Amanda Flower is my top go-to cozy mystery writer. I love her quirky humour and unconventional characters. Not to mention the unusual and opinionated critters that find their way into her stories. This time it's a polka-dotted pot-belly pig that shows up in the most unexpected places. :-)
Assaulted Caramel (clever title!) is the first book in a new series and there's a reason Amanda Flower is an Agatha Award-winning author. She knows how to spin a captivating mystery with plenty of surly suspects in a town full of secrets. I love the Amish connection. Bailey comes home to a town her father couldn't leave fast enough in his youth. She adores her Amish grandparents and is determined to help in any way she can -- even if that means tracking down a killer.
Which means she and a certain handsome deputy get off to a rocky start but I'm not fooled -- the potential for romance is definitely in the air based on how flustered Aiden makes Bailey and how amused that makes him. Can't wait to read further romantic developments in future books.
A winning combination of laughter, faith and intrigue make this a cozy mystery you don't want to miss.

Her grandfather was the most important thing for Bailey, if he was ill she needed to be there, a phone call was used by Amish only in emergency. Swissmen Sweets her grandparents shop, center of town, owning for over 50 years. Delighted to see his grandchild, but will she lose the vote to be head Chocolatier, by coming, working for 5 years to be. Go back and get the job for me, the grandfather asks her. I'm not going anywhere yet, nor selling to the English. Not sleeping decided to check her phone, which was downstairs. Door didn't want to open, her feet didn't want to move, and the screams were they her's. Why, here in this shop, death had come, this was the man in the suit wanting to buy shop. A delightful story with the twist of murder, and with family. Given ARC by Net Galley for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
pattiagal5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent new series by Amanda FlowerJuly 10, 2017pattiagalQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Agatha Award winning author, Amanda Flower, has a brand new Amish Candy Shop Mystery series that will debut on August 29, 2017. The first book, cleverly titled "Assaulted Caramel", has all the Flower elements...unique characters with humorous dialog, a great plot with subplots, charming and scene stealing animals, and a tricky mystery that had me guessing until the murderer was revealed! An added bonus is a recipe for chocolate caramel fudge!
Bailey King, the main protagonist, and a New York City chocolatier, returns to the Harvest, Ohio community of her Amish grandparents due to the serious illness of her grandfather. Her grandparents have a very successful candy shop that is prime real estate and a target for a wealthy businessman who has tried to intimidate Bailey's grandfather into selling. Unfortunately, the business tycoon ends up dead in the candy shop kitchen. He was killed with a knife that has Bailey's fingerprints all over it. And so the mystery begins! Along the way you meet a handsome deputy, his lovely mother with her pet pig, Jethro, the local pastor, a demanding mother of the bride, a possessive bridegroom, a meek and extremely nervous bride to be, her Amish best friends, and Bailey's purple haired very cosmopolitan best friend Cass. The million dollar question is "who done it!" as Bailey tries to clear her name.
I have been a reader fan of Amanda Flower/Isabella Alan for a few years now. She never disappoints, she does a thorough job of impeccable research for her stories, and always leaves you craving the next book in the series! Honestly, this book had me craving candy too! When it hits the shelves in August, pick up your copy! It will be well worth it!
I received an ARC ebook from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
