Publisher's Description

The Gratitudes is a multi-volume, focussed anthology of ideas and the arts through the lens of the concept of virtues, the transition to values over the patchwork quilt of history. The interplay of people with those values is what enable lives of engagement, purpose and integrity.

The Gratitudes covers the ancient, historical and modern periods, with special emphasis on determining how virtues and values were articulated by scholars and practiced by artists and craftspeople, and engaged with by ordinary people in the daily conduct of their lives.

The Gratitudes places a special emphasis on understanding the role that values play in our contemporary world by tracking and documenting the critical attention being paid to them by artists, philosophers, theologians, sociologists, and psychologists.
