Connie5 Stars Out Of 5Very intriguingDecember 30, 2021ConnieQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I have loved every book Kate Breslin has written and this one certainly did not disappoint. I was drawn in to Roses story. I wanted all of her hopes for the future to come to be. Alex Baird and his wonderful, loving family, Roses dog Winston and the girls under Roses supervision at the factory all fit together to add so many levels to the story line. And some characters were not what they seemed to be and that kept the intrigue coming. I highly recommend this book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own and a positive review was not required. -
ConnieKentuckyAge: Over 65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Fantastic Historical Fiction!December 1, 2021ConnieKentuckyAge: Over 65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5'Rose suddenly realized that she'd needed to become someone else in order to find herself.'
This is the captivating story of two people facing immense challenges during the Great War. It begins in England in March 1918, and progresses through the next few months, as heroine Rosalind Graham leaves England to assume a new identity in Scotland. It is there that she meets RAF Captain Alex Baird and his family, discovers her strengths and weaknesses, and embarks on the greatest adventure of all...beginning to believe in herself and learning to trust in others!
As Dawn Breaks is a riveting drama that is filled with deep secrets, exciting adventure, and an abundance of historical detail. Author Kate Breslin shares even more facts in her acknowledgement page, and it's apparent that she devoted a lot of time researching this story. I've read several books set during the WWI era, but I wasn't familiar with a munitions factory or the Canary girls who worked there. Canary girls, so named because of their yellowed skin and bleached hair that were the result of working with some of the acids used in making the ammunition. I also enjoyed Scotland as the setting and I loved the powerful faith message that is such a big part of the plot. Rosalind had grown up with hurts, disappointments, and unloving parents, so living with a loving, faith-filled family gave her a new insight into the importance of believing in, and trusting in, God. This is wonderful historical fiction and I recommend it to all who enjoy Christian romance.
'His faith had taught him that God forgives all, yet until he could forgive himself, he'd never see the dawn break upon his soul.'
I received a copy of this book from the author and Bethany House. There was no obligation for a positive review and this is my opinion.

Jocelyn5 Stars Out Of 5Historical FictionSeptember 22, 2021JocelynQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for As Dawn Breaks - eBook. If you have ever read any of Kate Breslin's books, you know you will be taken on an adventurous journey. It's actually hard to believe that her books could get any better, but this one does.
In 1918 England Rose Graham is trapped into an upcoming arranged marriage by her ruthless guardian. When an explosion happens at the Chilwell factory, her best friend is killed. Presumed dead, Rose assumes Tilly Lockhard's identity, finding work in Scotland.
Captain Alex Baird is given an assignment to locate and uncover the saboteur of the explosion. Retuning to his home in Gretna, the factory there may be the next target. Alex is surprised to find Tilly, being welcomed by his family, renting his boyhood room.
This is such a great story. There is so much depth in theses characters. Rose's struggle as she tries to earn the trust of her charges in the factory. Alex's growing care for Rose, even when he is assigned to surveil her. Alex's sister Hannah is such a beautiful innocent character. Kate Breslin's excellent research of WWI, with women coming to the forefront in the war effort. What I loved most about this book is it is a fresh story. There has been too much of the same storylines lately. This one is refreshing with a new perspective. Complex, yet riveting. The mystery at the end will blow you away. A really good clean read.
I received a complimentary ebook copy from the publisher, through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. -
