I am writing this review of behalf of the young lady who read it, although I personally read it myself. April Showers is a good read for teens and young adults alike. Although anyone who likes the YA genre will enjoy it also. I has good flow and does not bog you down with too much fluff or adjective writing. It has sound biblically based messages, while being entertaining as well. If you are a parent looking for a clean romance for your high school age teen or are a young adult yourself, I would highly recommend it.

Author/Artist Review

Author: David C. Reyes
Located in: Yucca Valley, CA
Submitted: December 09, 2013

Tell us a little about yourself.  David was born and raised in Southern California to a family of five. He writes in a variety of genres promoting an uplifting message. His publishing credits include; The Christmas I'll Never Forget, a family book for all ages. The Plush Bear, a YA romance. The Fuller Creek Series, middle-grade/teen series. And April Showers. David is the father of one, and lives with his wife, Linda, in Yucca Valley, California.

What was your motivation behind this project?  My motivation for writing this book, was to deal with the issue of stereotypes and labels which society places on us. Growing up through middle and high school can play a vital role in the development of our self-esteem. The main character, April, has to deal with these issues, but comes to a point in her life where she chooses to rise above it. The name for her character actually came from a girl I knew in high school by the name of April Showers.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  What I hope people will take from this book, is that names and stereotypes do not define us. What defines us is how we treat other people, and how we choose to live our lives and rise above it. I also hope that readers simply enjoy the characters and storyline.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  My life was impacted by this project, because up until writing it, I never released how labels, stereotypes and teasing of one’s character, affected me personally. Growing up a “church boy”, I was labeled as such and felt somewhat of an outcast in my personal beliefs. It was balanced out by my acceptance within our “church family”, so I really didn’t think much about it until I wrote this book. However, looking back, I was teased a lot for being a "square" during middle and high school.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  My source of inspiration came from my days growing up and observing how our society plays a big part in who we grow up to be. I’m thankful that I had my personal beliefs in God to fall back on when times got rough. In a time when there is so much pressure on us to act a certain way, it’s easy to see why so many youth turn to drugs or non-healthy relationship to fill the voids in their lives. I’m thankful that I had God in my life to fill that void, otherwise who know where I might be today…

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  I would just like to acknowledge my wonderful wife who has been my biggest supporter in my writing endeavors. She is a source of encouragement in those times when I get discouraged, wondering if my message is reaching people. She has been a godsend to my life.
