familybookends5 Stars Out Of 5Read to understand. Read to be encouraged. Read to learn to have the difficult conversations.October 6, 2021familybookendsMama Bear Apologetics Guide to Sexuality offers a gospel centered approach to navigating the many sexual issues in society today, and perhaps best of all, it gives us the language and knowledge needed to enter into discussions with our kids and others about these controversial topic. Ferrer (and Davidson) begin by laying the biblical groundwork for God's beautiful design for human sexuality and then examine the ideologies embedded in culture today. The authors help us discern truth from lies, holding fast to scriptural sexual morality while at the same time centralizing the power and grace of the gospel to transform sinful hearts and desires. (Spoiler Alert: We all have sinful hearts and desires and need redemption!). The authors navigate difficult topics wisely and winsomely, interjecting just enough humor to add a bit of levity to heavy topics. This book is a valuable resource to parents, teachers, grandparents, and anyone who would appreciate some clear thinking on sexual topics from a biblical worldview.

Jennifer5 Stars Out Of 5The Sex Talk Parents Should be Having!October 5, 2021JenniferQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Navigating life as a Christian in our increasingly sexualized culture is already like tiptoeing through a minefield, but doing it as a parent, grandparent, teacher, or favorite aunt can often leave us feeling out of our depth and a little lost. How do we answer the tough questions about sex, gender, marriage, sexuality, and more with grace and truth? By reading this book, for starters!
This is the SEX TALK Christian parents should be having with their kids (or even with themselves!)
This book handles just about every possible question on sex and sexuality from the perspective of a Christian worldview. Each topic is exhaustively researched using both Christian and secular sources. And each chapter is an absolute wealth of information without feeling overwhelming for busy mama and papa bears. Plus, this book does what few Christian resources have done well, it gracefully speaks the truth about sexuality and identity in a way that honors each person as a unique image bearer of God. Mama Bear Apologetics teaches us to think Biblically about each aspect of sex, gender, identity, and sexuality so that we are equipped to glorify God and follow Him as believers and raise the next generation to do the same.
I honestly had a really challenging time reviewing this book because it is so good that I had a hard time focusing on just a few things to share. As I read, each chapter was my new favorite. I struggled to choose even a few best quotes because I just wanted to highlight whole pages. Never before have I seen such a well-organized and grace-filled treatment of such a difficult topic. The book outlines God's design and purpose for sex in such a beautiful way. I wish all parents would give their kids THIS SEX TALK. Even as a middle-aged adult, so much of this book helped me walk through my own brokenness regarding sexuality and start to reframe my ideas about sex and sin and forgiveness and grace in healthier ways.
I wish I could order copies for everyone in my life. It's that good and that important. Seriously, buy two. You're going to want to read it with a friend (or ten) and discuss it! -
Erin5 Stars Out Of 5Tongue tied no more!October 6, 2021ErinQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Our kids are living in a vastly different world than when most of us were growing up. My husband and I are trying to parent well. Our intention is to model the good design of God for marriage, relationships and sexuality to our kids. But in recent years I have found myself tongue tied when my kids come home from middle and high school with stories of other kids making very different choices: choices that are contrary to the good design of God when followed. I have to counsel my children through confusion, bewilderment, fear of being canceled, and heartbreak as they watch friends and classmates make one life altering decision after another.
Sometimes I do not know what to say and I feel rather alone in all of this. Then along comes the Mama Bear Apologetics Guide to Sexuality by Hillary Morgan Ferrer and Amy Davison and suddenly I have the words and I no longer feel so alone.
In this book Hillary and Amy detail in Part One what the original intent of God is for marriage, relationships, and sexuality, how our worldview affects how we view sexuality and vice versa. In Part Two they discuss the new sexual education standards that either may be coming to the school of your child soon or may already be there and how you can engage well with your community. In Part Three they tackle the most sensitive and most common issues of the day that our kids are either struggling with or watching others around them deal with. They discuss also where the church got things right and where the church went off the rails, particularly with purity culture. They offer grace, compassion, the love and truth of God in all of these issues.
The last chapter is probably my favorite. Hillary and Amy remind us that following Jesus comes at a cost: dying to ourselves. We all have sone sort of cross to bear and as believers we should expect that. In true Mama Bear Apologetics fashion, I am able to see the why behind the behavior: the legitimate need or hurt that needs healing, the lies that twist people up, and most importantly, how Jesus meets that need, heals that hurt and rescues us from the entangling lies. I finally have the words how to communicate well and counsel my kids. -

Betty Jo5 Stars Out Of 5Beautiful and PracticalDecember 8, 2021Betty JoQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Mama Bear Apologetics is wonderful at giving a comprehensive yet understandable explanation of the things we see happening in the culture around us. Sorting out and making sense of the whirlwind of ideas can be so overwhelming. Not to mention intimidating when it seems like the biblical worldview is under attack. This book helped me make sense if it all and easily compare it to a biblical worldview, all the while filling me with courage for the task and reminding me of the hope we have been given. Thank you Mama Bear!
