I have seen Jennie speak, she is amazing and inspiring. Her Biblical content and references are well developed. However, she writes like she speaks. The book is difficult to follow because there is no linear progression of a topic. It is full of short anecdotes that have nothing to do with each other. There is no progression of a main theme.

I've always felt like a bad prayer. Who in the world has a problem praying? Certainly not anyone I've met...Our Pastor doesn't, my Mama never did, no one ever did on the Waltons and even my littles don't...but I've always felt as if I do. And if asked to pray in a group, oh boy, Lord help us all. It normally ends with the tears streaming, no one being able to understand a word I'm saying and me feeling like a fool. With that said, any time I can review a book about prayer, I snatch it up in a hurry.

Anything The Prayer That Unlocked My God And My Soul provides us with an intimate look at the spiritual journey Jennie Allen embarks on the day she realizes that the God she has heard about all of her life seems more plastic than real to her, and that she wants more. Reading that captivated me. I've grown up with the mindset that there are just some things you may kinda feel but you try hard not to think them, and you certainly never voice them. Feeling as if God was more plastic than real was one of those things. I'm going to be honest, that made me want to read on!

The book is an updated version of her first book with the same title. While her new book is similar, she writes about how her faith continued to grow and her relationship with God became deeper. She let go, and let God take over her life, for good. Her book is a prayer to surrender, a prayer to stop you from pursing a safe, boring life and start living the life God intended you to live.

Her search leads her to grapple with issues that most Christians would rather not think about and ultimately, to pray with her husband a prayer of surrender and abandonment that will change their lives and the lives of those around them.

Jennie Allen does a wonderful job conveying biblical truth, explaining that our lives are not meant to be safe and comfortable, but radical and profound.

This book was provided to me free of charge by Book Look in return for my honest review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Wow. I just finished reading Anything by Jennie Allen, and there is so much going on in my head and heart right now.

Anything is a book that first released about three years ago, but a new expanded edition has been released, and this is the one I read. In it Allen talks abutter family's journey to truly be willing to do anything God called them to - to be open to His plans for their lives instead of just being stuck on their own.

The book starts out with exploring some of the things that keep us from being willing to do anything for God, and I found myself relating to many of them. Then Allen takes us through her own story. She has a great way of mixing personal stories in with challenges to her readers, and I was really challenged through this book.

This new expanded edition also comes with a study guide in the back. I have worked through a couple of the weeks, but I didn't want to rush it, so I am planning on journaling through the questions at a slower pace. The questions are challenging and make you evaluate your own life. Lucky for me (and you!) FaithGateway is also doing #TheAnythingProject with Jennie Allen, which is basically a free Bible study - with downloads and videos coming straight to your inbox when you sign up. It's a great companion to the book!

I first heard of Jennie Allen a couple years ago, when I did her Restless study with a friend. It was exactly what I needed to read at the time, but it took me forever to finish the book because I felt like I needed to process what I was learning. The same thing happened with Anything - it took me longer than I thought it would to finish this book, mainly because I didn't want to rush through it. Each chapter inspired and challenged me, and it has made me refocus and think more deeply about what the Lord has for me here. Honestly I think I want to re-read it again, just to keep myself focused - her chapters are great daily reminders that this world is not all there is, and we shouldn't live like it is. We should be living here with eternity constantly in front of our minds, and then it is easier to surrender to God's anything for us.

I have a lot more going on internally right now, and maybe I will get my thoughts together for more posts, but for now I just wanted to get this review up.

If you have ever found yourself feeling restless in your Christian walk, feeling like there has to be more, I think Anything is a great book to read to help you find out what the "more" might be. I highly recommend it.

Note: I received a copy of this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I was super excited to read Jennie Allen's newest book, "Anything". Actually, it is an updated edition of her original book, "Anything", with a brand new bible study included in the book. I LOVE IT! I was introduced to Jennie Allen about 4 years ago when I was given her first bible study, "Stuck". Immediately, I fell in love with her teaching style, and her contagious passion for Jesus.

"Anything" (The Prayer that Unlocked my God and My Soul) tells the story of what happened after Jennie and her husband prayed a simple, but courageous prayer, "God, we will do anything. Anything". Jennie shares that the next morning she got up to her normal everyday routine, but she knew that something radical had changed in her heart. She was totally surrendered, to God and would be willing to say yes to God's Will for her life whatever the cost.

One of Jennie's passions is to equip and encourage the body of Christ to live a surrendered life to Jesus. He is real, and He deserves our everything. I don't want to share too many details about the book, because it is such a precious gem, and I don't want to spoil any of it for you through this review. However, I will say that this book although easy to read, is not an easy read. I believe God can use Jennie's book to awaken the soul of Christians to live surrendered lives. Courageous lives. Lives that will count for eternity's sake.

The beauty of this little book is that it is also a bible study, and Jennie created teaching videos that to complement the book. I cannot say enough good about this book, so go right away and purchase it, and gather a few of your friends to go through the book and bible study with you :)

Thank you BookLook Bloggers for giving me a complimentary copy of this book to review.
