I thought this would be more of a theologically and Biblically correct treatise. Personally, I could have done a much better job on this subject...and I just have a bachelor's degree in Religion. I am unsure of the background of this husband and wife team who wrote this book. It doesn't say, except that they have written quite a few other Christian books. The subject of this book obviously was not thoroughly researched before they wrote the book. They come to conclusions using just a few verses of the Bible. Perhaps they do not know much of the Bible. They need to base their beliefs and conclusions on many verses pulled from different Biblical books. The chapter on animals and our pets in heaven is one example. There are many other verses they could have included but did not, in order to make a correct deduction...not the incorrect one they make. Save your money. I will give this away to Salvation Army.

Answering the Toughest Questions about God and the Bibleis a book that answers a lot of questions that not-Christians or new Christians may have about Christianity and God in particular.

The book answers several questions that are often asked, which I like. It also takes a comparatively takes a non-controversial route, and answers questions straight from the Bible, which is nice, because I can use some of the arguments more easily without needing to pick and choose.

The defense and the explanation for each of the questions are very well-researched and cohesive, which is very helpful if I ever need to use it. Each of the questions starts being answered by starting at a very basic level, which is helpful as well.

There are discussion questions at the end of each chapter, which allows for discussion and study in groups or by oneself.

Overall, I like this book, and recommend it for anyone who has questions about God and the Bible, or is looking for answers for someone who is questioning stuff like this.

    My Rating:

This book is for the basic Christian questions that you need answered. It is written in a basic easy to read format. I like how the authors made the format interesting to read along with the ease of understanding. Each chapter covers a different question along with questions for you to think about and relates to the subject of the chapter.

I would recommend this to those that have basic bible questions, along with the desire to learn about GOD. This is a good book that you can use to teach how to answer questions that others ask you. It is also a great book for those searching for GOD.

Have you, or someone you know, ever asked the kind of questions that seem impossible to answer or at least impossible to answer well? I had the opportunity to review a book that claims, with its very title, to give answers to some of those questions.

Answering The Toughest Questions About God And The Bible, by Bruce Bickel and Stan Jantz, is a relatively simple book that gets to the heart of many questions, not by giving pat answers, but by asking more questions, providing evidence that helps to clarify, pointing out the truths of scripture, and encouraging the asker to keep asking, to keep wrestling until they are satisfied. I found their approach to be refreshing, having seen what can happen when young believers are discouraged from asking questions; sometimes, like with Jacob, faith comes through the wrestling.

The authors do not shy away from hard topics; they do indeed hit the big ones: Is God real, why did he create us, why doesn't he make himself more obvious, can I trust the Bible, why is the Bible hard to understand, if Jesus is so loving why is God so violent, why is Jesus the only way, the Trinity, and does God really care about me and my life.

After asking the question, there is a short introduction, usually an anecdote of someone who has asked the question; often there is section that highlights the honest struggles that many believers have with the topic helping to remove the guilt at asking for answers. God invites us to seek, ask and knock, that is the process the authors leads us through.

The seeking process is shown by learning the facts, the scripture, the opposing views, and the false teachings surrounding the question. This book is not a deep apologetics text, so you will not be given a deluge of information, but you will be given the basics and direction to look deeper if you desire to.

One of the most helpful parts of this book is one I normally hate: the questions for reflection sections. Usually they are cheesy and vague, but the questions posed throughout the chapters in this book seem actually to be design to help the reader honestly clarify what he is thinking, believing, or even occasionally disbelieving.

I like this book because instead of making the reader feel guilty or ashamed of his questions it reminds him that questions are an honest starting point. It is through questions that faith can grow and emerge on a solid, thought out and defendable foundation. These questions are too important not to ask. If someone you know is asking them, this book may help.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

I have a friend who has a grandson who went to church some as a kid, but his parents are not Christians. He is always asking his Grandmother (my friend) questions about God and spiritual things, he is a real introspective, a thinker. He is away at College this year, he is 18. He still has honest questions about Christianity and world religions. I believe this book would be a great tool for him and others like him.

The book in infused with humor, even though it is a very serious topic. It is thought provoking and interactive. There are questions for reflection and discussion at the end of each chapter, very tough questions. I've been a Christ follower and believer for over 35 yrs and the questions and reflections really got me thinking of the "whys" of my faith. From the get-go I've just took God at His Word and I lived by faith and believed it was sinful to question God, but what about the times of doubt we all have, the hurts in life, seeming "unanswered prayer"and where is God now? The book doesn't make you feel guilty about any doubts you may have, but points to God's word.

The questions addressed in this book are critical questions that pertain to Salvation and faith in God. It has great analogies, insights and stories to drive the authors points home. It is Biblical and sticks to Scripture. It is easy to understand and I would say "user-friendly", good for group study too.

I received this book from Baker Publishing Group in exchange for an honest review. I would highly recommend this book to those who have any doubts or to those who desire to help others with their questions about out Christian faith.
