The study notes are very bad in my opinion and clearly writen by athiests. Get any other study bible. This version is also poorly translated, as well. I have a John MacArthur I would recommend with Christian notes, better layout, and it is easier to read.

If you're familiar with the Oxford Annotated Bible (especially the 4th edition), you'll pretty much know what you're getting with the 5th edition. There's a reason Oxford / New Oxford have been publishing these study aids for as long as they have - they are an absolute GOLD MINE for academic commentary on the Bible. When I get serious about studying the Bible, I pair this Bible (with commentary that tends towards historical truths and doesn't shy away from criticisms of the text) with the ESV study Bible (with commentary that tends to treat the Bible more literally).

As for quality - the cover feels great, the paper is thin but durable, and the thumb indexes are a nice touch. If you can get this edition on sale, I recommend it!

I have found this to be my "go-to" Bible out of many. The NRSV has become my favorite translation, and as a student of theology and biblical studies I appreciate the insight and notes in this edition. Being a Pentecostal (Church of God, Cleveland, TN) pastor and believer there are points and notes I question, but the bottom line remains...there is much helpful, fruitful insight from the notes that will help one to grow academically and in knowledge for the pulpit.
