vics495484 Stars Out Of 5An enjoyable readAugust 20, 2017vics49548Quality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Author Lisa Jones Baker allows us into the world of the Amish community with her understanding of their customs. I think the only thing she could have done "better" was to use some of the Pennsylvania Dutch language to make it more plausible. That said, it is a great book that moves quickly and holds your interest.
I really had trouble putting this down. I couldn't figure out what would happen. Would Levi return to the Amish life? Would Annie, because of her deep love for Levi, become English? If you enjoy Amish fiction you'll want to read this and find out!
I loved reading about Old Sam and the beautiful hope chests he makes. He's such a great reminder to slow down and take the time to make something beautiful and timeless.
Book 2 in the Hope Chest of Dreams series, this book can be read as a standalone with no problems. I'm looking forward to reading book 3!
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

By Lisa Jones Baker
Annies Recipe is book two in Hope Chest of Dreams series. I absolutely love this series. This was my second book to read by Lisa Jones Baker and hopefully I will be reading more. Looking forward to reading book three in this series. The story and the characters both are so real that I felt like I was right there with them. The author grabbed me right at the start and I was hooked.I loved the two main characters ,Annie and Levi . They grew up together and was really close till something happened. Sam was a really good friend to Annie. Annie was a strong woman and I loved that she kept the faith. I think I kept tears in my eyes while reading this wonderful love story. Is there any hope for Annie and Levi? I was happy to meet back up with Rebecca from Rebeccas Bouquet. If you love reading good Amish books then you will love this series.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book , but was not told that I had to give a positive review.

Annie and Levi were the best of friends as children, but that ended abruptly when his father was shunned and the family moved away. When Levi returns to Arthur, Illinois for a wedding they reconnect and it opens up new possibilities for both of them.
What caught me off guard a bit with this story was how much focus was placed on simply these two characters. So much of the Amish fiction I read gives you an entire community feeling. Annie's Recipe was really about Annie and Levi and to some degree their families. I wasn't quite sure how I felt about that at first because it was decidedly different from what I am used to. By the time I came to the end, however, I was grateful for it. This style truly allowed me to fully understand these characters and how they developed thought this touching story.
While I didn't read the first book in this series, I didn't miss anything as Annie's Recipe is a stand alone novel. I would, however, love to read Rebecca's Bouquet and Rachel's Dream because these three women are sisters and it would be interesting to learn all their stories. I'll definitely be on the look for more of Baker's work in the future.
If you enjoy Amish fiction, you need to add Lisa Jones Baker to your "to be read" list.
Rhonda Nash-hallMadison Heights VAAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Appropriate for teens & adultsMay 17, 2017Rhonda Nash-hallMadison Heights VAAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Hope chests are so special. I never had the pleasure of owning own myself, except for a very small cedar one that a local furniture shop gifted to every senior girl upon our high school graduation. I treasured that little chest and kept special things in it...the hand-tatted handkerchief that my grandmother made, love letters from my husband from our dating days, etc. Sam makes hand-carved ones with special meaning for each recipient. Annie and her sisters have made it their mission to minister to Sam after the death of his wife, and he has a unique bond with them. He gives wise counsel to Annie as she renews a friendship with Levi from her school days in the Amish schoolhouse . They were inseparable in their younger years and they find that the desire to spend time together is just as great if not even greater. But he is now English and mamm and the Amish community disapprove of their relationship as they fear she will leave the Amish faith and become English. Will their love for each other be realized? He doesn't want to leave the English world and she doesn't want to leave the Amish. Can God help them find a way to be together?
I loved reading this story and discovering new things about Annie and her sisters. They share a special bond and this resonates with me as I feel the same way about my sister and four brothers. Family is important to me, just as it is for Annie, Levi, and the Amish in general. My faith in God drives my decisions and that is certainly true for the Amish. Levi was once Amish himself so this is still vital to his life as well. Lisa Jones Baker incorporates faith beautifully into the words of her writing. This book would be appropriate for teenage readers as well as adults.
I am pleased to say this book deserves a rating of 5 stars.
I received a gift copy of this book from netgalley and Kensington Publishing Corporation.

That is how it makes you feel, they are lovely people who have found each other again and are trying to figure out if that road leads back love that they once had. Do they find it? what happens to Annie and Levi? Your heart is truly touched by these two. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
