I loved, loved, loved the Anne of Green Gables movies. I couldn't wait for this one to come out. What a huge disappointment. It is like a totally different writer wrote this one or something. The other ones were light and fun. This one is very serious. The other ones were wholesome and good for kids, I wouldn't recommend this one for kids. They look much older in the movie but they still haven't gotten married. They are much more interested in pursuing their careers than getting married which seems more like something people would do now than in that time frame. They later get married but Anne seems like she is falling for another guy. Many things I don't like about this movie. They should have had Gilbert and Anne get married and have children and have the children do funny and touching things, keeping in line with tone of the first two. I wish I had never watched it. It destroys the series. I will just pretend I never saw it and enjoy the first two. Many reviewers wrote that they weren't as good as the books, etc. but I never read the books but still say, don't watch this movie. Watch the first two and stop there.

I disagree with the poor reviews of this movie. However, I'm not reviewing the movie within the context of the books since I've never read them. Anne's character is COMPLETELY different though. Not bad, just different. She's more mature and has outgrown her childishness and stubborness. It is more adult than the first two. My son particularly likes this one because of the war theme. Maybe not true to the books but still a good movie.

This movie and series was so wonderful that my family and I watch it again and again. My only complaint is that they have not continued. I loved Megan Follows as Anne and her true love Gilbert. I have grown up with them and have dearly loved the adventure!

I am glad I saw this on TV before I bought it. I know that the screeen writers were trying to give the idea of the darkness of war but almost everything including Anne's outlook turns dark. Diana's life seems sour until the very end when things brighten a bit. Then Anne meets up with Diana's husband in England and you get the idea that he wants her to give up on Gilbert and return to Canada with him and an abandoned child she is taking care of, as a family. Ugh. Then there's another male character, Jack, that gives her the same offer later and she seems to have underlying feelings for him even though Gilbert is back in her life and she says no to Jack's offer. Ugh. Anne, wearing a nun's habit starts flasking whiskey from an acquaintance on a train. I know war is ugly but I was hoping that Anne would turn out to be a bright spot in the ugliness like she was in the other movies. The movie definitely does not follow in the same suit as the previous ones and that was disappointing to me. The only bright spot was that it did seem to end well. I don't mind the change in the story but I wish Anne's character and virtue had been kept consistent in this one. I think I could have written a better screenplay for this myself.

I'm sorry, but I really didn't like this movie. It, as other people have said, wasn't true to the books, but in addition it was really depressing because people die. And seeing the actors so much older was depressing too, don't ask me why. But I'm glad for the people who like it, just kinda bummed me out.
