Publisher's Description

Anna’s Healing is the first book in a brand-new collection from popular author Vannetta Chapman. These stories of love and family and Amish community in Oklahoma tell of the miracles that can happen when lives are lived in service to God and to one another.

When a tornado strikes the farms surrounding Cody’s Creek, Anna Schwartz’s life is changed forever. She suffers a spinal cord injury and suddenly finds herself learning to live as a paraplegic.

Three people—Chloe Roberts, Jacob Graber, and Ruth Schwartz—join forces to help Anna through her darkest days. Chloe is an Englischer who writes for the local paper. Jacob has recently arrived in town and stays on as a hired hand at her uncle’s. And Ruth is her grandmother, a woman of deep faith and a compassionate spirit.

Then one morning Anna wakes and finds herself healed. How did it happen? Why did it happen? And what is she to do now? Her life is again turned upside down as the world’s attention is drawn to this young Amish girl who has experienced the unexplainable.

Anna Schwartz left her family in Goshen, Indiana to spend a year in small town Codys Creek, Oklahoma with her beloved grandmother and her Aunt & Uncle. Things were certainly different in Codys Creek..they used tractors to farm and take trips to town!

At twenty-four, Anna was still unmarried and her parents were hoping she may find a husband in Oklahoma. She hadnt shown interest in anyone at home.

Jacob Graber was an unusual sort of Amish man. He left his family in New York and was working his way to Florida. He kept up with the crops and went from state to state helping Amish men with their harvests. He was in Codys Creek when the terrible tornado hit.

The tornado changed Annas life. The team of horses she was driving spooked and she was thrown from the wagon. She suffered a spinal cord injury that left her legs paralyzed. She couldnt garden or work the produce stand in a wheelchair. That is, until Jacob got to work and elevated her plants!

Mammi covered Anna in prayer day and night. Did her prayers heal Anna physically? Maybe they helped her better accept her life in a wheelchair. Did Anna find love in Oklahoma?

Vannetta Chapman is one of my favorite authors and I totally enjoyed reading Annas story. You will too!

I'm so stunned by the pure beauty of this story that I'm stumped over what to say.

    Almost. :-)

It's a powerful testimony of the way God meets us in the moment...even the difficult ones when we aren't sure He's paying attention. But no, I'm not satisfied with that summary. It's bigger than that. It's about how God sees the big picture while we're fixated on one tiny brushstroke. And it's about how He places people in our path so they'll be there when we need them the most.

My favourite character is Anna's grandmother, Ruth. She's the glue that holds the family together through the tragedy. Her faith is endless, her patience inexhaustible and her love all-encompassing. Everybody should have a granny like Ruth in their corner.

Anna and Jacob are both still trying to find their place in the world at the beginning of the book. Anna has ventured from home and a loving (but meddlesome) large extended family. Jacob has a restless spirit that has led him from one Amish community to another with absolutely no desire to settle down permanently in any of them. And then he ends up in Cody's Creek by 'happenchance.' Though, in my humble opinion, the circumstances that lead him to Oklahoma are definitely God driven. So here are two...not quite lost, but certainly not found....souls thrown together in the midst of a chaotic time.

Their love story enthralled me. But it's so much more than a love story. It's a God story. Inspiration in every page as the reader lives all the struggles and fears right along with them. And oh my! But Jacob is an inspiration all on his own. So thoughtful and caring and tender. Be still my heart!

And then Anna's story takes an abrupt U-turn and there's even more story fodder to sink a reader's teeth into. A sublime read from start to finish.

This was a fantastic story. Anna was a happy girl until the tornado went through the town where she was living with her aunt and uncle. She is thrown from the wagon when the tornado hits and her spine is severed. She becomes a paraplegic. She gets very depressed. She is helped through her depression by Chloe, an Englisher, that writes for the local paper. Jacob who fell in love with Anna right before the accident and her grandmother who helps her to keep her faith and her compassionate spirit. There are many twists and turns that the whole family goes through when a miracle happens. Can everyone handle what happens after a miracle? I received this book from the author for a fair and honest opinion.

Anna's Healing is a marvelous story of courage, faith, and hope. Anna left her home to stay for a year with her aunt and uncle and Mammi, her grandmother, with not a clue that her life was to change forever. As she begins building relationships with an Englischer reporter and her uncle's hired hand, she wonders about her own life and what she is meant to do. Then a tornado rips through the Amish community and tragedy befalls Anna. She is permanently paralyzed, with no hope of recovery. Can God use this in Anna's life to show her his love, his strength, his refuge? Anna has recurring dreams and is puzzled and concerned about them. What is their meaning? Are they just for her? Do they concern others who are in her dreams? Then, once again, her life is turned upside down as she awakens one morning completely healed. What is the impact of this miracle on her life, on the lives of those surrounding her? Vannetta Chapman does an outstanding job of making this story real. The characters are believable and likable and their faith in God is evident throughout. The tension in the story keeps the reader turning the pages, wondering what is going to happen next. And when the story is completed, readers may still have questions about what happened to Anna but one thing is sure when one encounters the Holy God--one comes away forever changed.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest opinion.

Anna is the main character in this inspiring story about miracles. She has decided to leave her home in Indiana. She travels to Cody's Creek to stay with her aunt, uncle and grandmother. Anna begins to feel like this is where she is suppose to be and starts helping with the garden and selling at the produce stand.

Jacob is a troubled young man. He can't seem to stay in one place for long. He is a hard worker and finds himself in Cody's Creek . He soon finds work on Anna's uncles' farm. The two become friends and perhaps there is a spark of interest between the two. On one particular day while they are working outside a tornado touches down on the farm. Much of their crop is destroyed and Anna has been critically injured.

When Anna's receives news that she has been paralyzed from the waist down , her heart sinks. She is use to helping out on the farm. The doctors have told her that she will never walk again. Will her aunt and uncle find her a burden now that she is confined to a wheelchair? Can she find the strength to be happy again?

I won't spoil what the miracle is but I will say that it will have an impact on everyone in the community and sweeps across the country at rapid speed. Have you ever witnessed a miracle? Do you believe in miracles? The story has captured the Amish in beautiful detail. The author is well versed in the Amish and her descriptions are so precise that you can visualize the community and the people as though you are there. I loved the way the author uses the Amish dialect and has helped me to learn a few words. The characters are warm and caring. They have a strong faith which will be tested later in the book. I was surprised that Amish use tractors now for transportation, but with the authors In-depth knowledge of them, I always learn something new while reading her books. I found the book to be very emotional and so well written that I finished it in a few hours. There are a few surprises in the book, which I wasn't expecting. Thank you for a book that captures the lives of the Amish with a warmth and loving attention to detail. As you read the book, don't overlook the mention of an organization that helps children called , The Linus Project.

Overall the book is captivating, emotional , hopeful and above all filled with love and faith.
