Hard to imagine a wonderful Christmas tucked in the Smoky Mountains without thinking of the song, Tennessee Christmas. It exemplifies exactly what those who live in or have experienced at some time, what a Christmas in the mountains looks and feels like. Yet this time of the year we all have our beloved Christmas favorites and that is why I am thrilled to share with you, Amy Grant: Tennessee Christmas CD.

Besides containing your traditional favorites like White Christmas, Joy to the World, Baby It's Cold Outside Duet with Vince Gill and O Come, All Ye Faithful, you get some originals that will make it to your must listen to during each Christmas season to come. There are 13 songs besides the title track of Tennessee Christmas, and my favorite of them all is To Be Together. For me it's a reminder that we don't really need anything but our loved ones to make Christmas something to remember. It is so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season and this CD is a beautiful way to remind us what the real reason for the Christmas season is, Jesus Christ.

Like Amy states, "Everybody has Christmas memories, and it seems like we spent as much time reminiscing and telling stories as we did making music. Nostalgic...warm...hopeful...loved...not alone." This CD contains the following tracks:

    1. Tennessee Christmas

    2. To Be Together

    3. Christmas For You and Me

    4. Melancholy Christmas

    5. December

    6. White Christmas

    7. Joy To The World

    8. I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm

    9. Baby, It's Cold Outside (Featuring Vince Gill).

    10. Christmas Don't Be Late

    11. Still Can't Sleep

    12. Another Merry Christmas

    13. O Come, All Ye Faithful

I received Amy Grant: Tennessee Christmas compliments of Capital Records and Fly By Promotions/Propeller LLC. Tucked inside this CD are the lyrics to all the songs as well as some beautiful family pictures of Amy Grant's Christmas memories over the years. I absolutely LOVED this CD to put me into the "country Christmas" mood! I would rate this CD a 4 out of 5 stars.

*Amy Grant has a new CD out in time for Christmas. Tennessee Christmas is a collection of 13 songs that encompass the meaning of Christmas from a variety of moods and views. Just as the Christmas season is filled with many emotions, "Tennessee Christmas" has a little something for everyone. The album grew on me more as I listened to it a few times, but even my initial reaction was favorable. The songs range from the loneliness that some experience to the joy of being together with loved ones. There are also new songs amidst familiar classics and favorite hymns. This is the first time I have ever like "Christmas Don't Be Late" (sorry Chipmunks!) and I even liked the arrangement [of a song I normally dislike] "Baby, It's Cold Outside" with Amy's husband, Vince Gill. The mixture of contemplative and light jazz music makes this album work well. I really loved what she did with "Joy to the World." This is one of my favorite Christmas songs, and I love it in a variety of arrangements; so while this slower version may not seem as "joyful" to some, there are times that this is exactly how I sing it at home. It reminds me that there is Hope. The final song, "O Come, All Ye Faithful" is a perfect reminder of the main reason we gather together on Christmas. It is to celebrate the birth of Jesus, surrounded by the family and friends we treasure.

Thanks to Propeller/FlyBy for sending me a copy of the CD.

It isn't often that I get the chance to review a CD, and rarer still to have the chance to review a CD I would normally purchase.

I don't listen to much of Amy Grant's usual music, but have always liked her Christmas and hymn CDs, which I think I own all of.

This CD has 13 cuts, all of them new recordings, and 6 of them new songs. My favorites: Tennessee Christmas, Christmas For You and Me, and White Christmas. She unfortunately recorded one of my all time least favorite Christmas sons, Baby It's Cold Outside. I also am not found of Melancholy Christmas, finding it a sad song that doesn't add to the recording.

The title cut is a new recording of her famous Tennessee Christmas. I would have to say I still like the original better, but this one is also well done enough that I actually like it.

Overall, the CD is a departure from her other Christmas CDs. It is very low-key, and has no songs that I would call upbeat, but it is a good departure from her normal Christmas fare. I have been listening to the CD a lot since I got it, and other than skipping "Baby It's Cold Outside", have enjoyed the whole CD and find it a welcome addition to my Christmas music collection.
