Great book, both historically and everyday. Every entry can help us look into our past and get help for today. Reading about the people who shaped our nation could give insight to resolve some of the problems of today.
I don't think anyone could go wrong adding this book to their library. It is a book that can be used year after year as it is dated only by day, not year.
I teach 5th grade and started reading it daily during the last third of the school year. My students are eager to hear what happened on each date in history, and they are especially excited to hear a familiar event retold to them. They've expanded their vocabulary as a result of this rich resource as well!
We have not read the book from January to December but over the last couple of weeks we have read the daily readings and I have to say we have very much enjoyed the tidbits of American History that we have learned. I like how it is set up as a devotional and not a long history book. After the short devotion for the day they give brief "this day in history" facts. Many times while we are reading over things it will lead us into more of our nation's history. It has truly been fun to read about the many things our young nation has done and gone through. This almanac is great for family devotion time. The history "lessons" are not to long as to bore younger kids and not too brief as to not give any real details for the older "kids". This new year we will start from January 1st and work our way all the way through :) If you enjoy US History (or even if you don't) this would make a perfect addition to any home library.
