The Total Language Plus: American Literature course consists of three modules (each sold-separately): Non-fiction, Short Stories, and Poetry. For a full year of American Literature it's recommended that they be completed in that order and that students complete the year with the TLP study guide for either To Kill a Mockingbird or The Scarlet Letter. Each module contains detailed lesson plans for three levels of study: advanced placement, regular high school, and overview. Internet access is recommended and utilizing the library is essential.
The "American Literature: Short Stories" module covers 22 American short story writers and teaches students how to effectively read short stories. Authors are presented in the context of their historical settings and influence. Plan 7 to 10 weeks for completion. The American Literature modules refer to How to Read Slowly by James W. Sire (which is not included). The studies can be completed without the book, but it is recommended as a valuable reference.
