Publisher's Description

Many of the best lessons in life spring forth out of the clutches of defeat and despair. What defines a person is not the significance of their suffering, or the depth of the despair associated throughout their failures. But rather, the distinguishing legacy of an individual's life is graphically displayed through the response to adversities encountered. The true definition of human triumph is based entirely on learning from mistakes! Accomplishment requires us to somehow garner the determination to move forward, leaving the fear, pain, scars, and insecurities in the past.

Amazon Culture: Exploring the Jungle of Narcissism is part memoir—exploring how author and Bible scholar L. K. Cook, PhD struggled through firsthand exposure to narcissistic abuse and eventually triumphed over it. It is also part self-help guide—illuminating a path to hope through the jungle for those who may still be struggling with narcissistic abuse themselves.

Pastors, lay ministers, friends, and family seeking to help those in the jungle could also benefit from exploring L. K. Cook's story, observations, and lessons learned the hard way.

Tell us a little about yourself.  I spent nearly 28 years working within the confines of the public school system, before retiring and entering into a new phase of service within church ministry. Within the ministry I served as an associate pastor at both a mega-church, as well as a small church plant for more than a decade before my world came crashing down all around me.

What was your motivation behind this project?  After having the world fall out from beneath my feet, through the loss of my father while enduring the added heartbreak of a divorce, the church that I had helped plant decided I was no longer qualified to continue to serve or attend and I was sent into relational exile. In a matter of a few short months, I lost my father, my wife, my church family, my ministry and my paid position within the church. To say I was devastated is a vast understatement. Within my search for both significance and hope I began a journey of deep reflection and research into what I had just endured. What I realized is that throughout much of my adult life, I had been surrounded by a multitude of narcissistic organizations and individuals. Narcissism has infiltrated every segment of society and it has been perpetuated through the banner of gender bias. Specifically, chauvinism and feminism. I discovered that narcissistic induced gender bias was prevalent within family structures, the workplace, personal relationships, and even a vast majority of local churches and organizations. I felt called to let others understand what they too might be dealing with if they are involved in any form of relational situation where this personality disorder is at play. Knowledge is crucial to not only break free from the Amazon's devious chains of control and manipulation, but also, it is essential to find healing from this debilitating influence.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  What do I hope you will discover through the words contained within Amazon Culture? Freedom, Hope and Assurance! You still have value, purpose and significance in spite of what you've been indoctrinated to believe. The road to recovery happens when you realize how to not only identify the tactics of narcissistic abuse, but to learn how to set boundaries within the relationship in order to perpetuate your path to healing and recovery.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  Doing the research regarding narcissistic personality disorder and being able to identify personal encounters with this form of abuse provided a great deal of healing within my own journey. Through it all, I came to the realization that emotional and spiritual abuse is a major tactic within the arsenal of the Amazon Culture. But most importantly, my faith in Christ deepened as I followed the path that led to personal healing and recovery from the tactics of those who were intent on destroying me.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  Shannon Thomas, author of "Healing from Hidden Abuse," and Dr. Les Carter, author of "Enough About You, Let's Talk About Me" perpetuated the healing process within my own circumstance of dealing with narcissistic individuals. I also found great comfort in numerous songs by Tiffany Coburn and the acapella group Voctave.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  The Amazon Culture found within modern society is intent on inflicting both emotional and spiritual abuse under the guise of gender equality. Ultimately, their goal is not to pursue equality, but rather domination and superiority through narcissistic means. Amazon Culture has already received many great reviews. If you have enjoyed Amazon Culture, I have also authored several other books that you might be interested in reading. They include Fingernails on the Chalkboard - An Insider's Look into the Public Education System, Sons of the Eastern Plains, and The Mystery of Zion - Israel and the Last Days. Thanks for taking the time to read through this information. God bless you on your journey!
