Product Description

We love our dogs for myriad reasons. They are loving, hilarious, playful, and loyal. They accept us, quirks and all, and hope we will do the same for them. They connect with us emotionally, often without making a sound. Maybe that is why almost half of all dogs sleep with their owners. And 87 percent of our canines watch TV with us.

There are at least 101 intriguing things to discover about America's most loyal pet. So kick back with your dog and let some remarkable canines and their "people" walk their way into your heart. Who knows-maybe you'll find yourself loving your dog (or dogs) more. If that's even possible.

Publisher's Description

Dogs. Early in our relationship with them, dogs lived on the fringes of villages or encampments, but it wasn’t long before canines were welcomed into the heart of civilization—and into the hearts of women, men, and children.

Thousands of years before the birth of Christ, dogs assisted people on hunts, joined them in battle, carried their goods, and sat with them by the fire. The Talmud extols dogs as faithful companions and protectors, noting that God gave Cain a dog as a symbol of His mercy and divine protection. Some Christians believe that the shepherds who visited the baby Jesus brought dogs with them. And according to legend, Saint Patrick was guided by a large gray dog whose chest bore the mark of a white cross.

Today, we love our dogs for myriad reasons. They are loving, hilarious, playful, and loyal. They accept us, quirks and all, and hope we will do the same for them. They connect with us emotionally, often without making a sound. Maybe that is why almost half of all dogs sleep with their owners. And 87 percent of our canines watch TV with us.

Within this book’s covers, you’ll discover truly amazing facts about dogs and the people who love them.

  • Which U.S. president is the number-one dog fan of all? (And which president’s dog once attacked a French ambassador?)
  • Why should dogs enjoy catnip just as much as cats?
  • How do dogs make commercial airline travel much, much safer?
  • Which canine actor was robbed of an Academy Award?
There are at least 101 intriguing things to discover about America’s most loyal pet. So kick back with your dog and let some remarkable canines and their "people" walk their way into your heart. Who knows—maybe you’ll find yourself loving your dog (or dogs) more. If that’s even possible.

Author Bio

Hello, my name is Kaycee, and I am TODD HAFER’s rescue Gordon setter. I cannot comment on his writing ability as I am not a big reader, but he is a good running companion. He is slowing down, but given the fact that he’s like 350 in dog years, it’s not surprising.

He is an award-winning writer whose 50-plus books have sold more than 2 million copies (at least that’s what I’ve been told).

We go for car rides out on the plains of eastern Kansas where we live, which I love (unless the destination is the vet, with her evil nose drops). And he once plunged into San Francisco Bay, in December, to save me this one time when I planned to swim after a duck. (Turns out I can’t swim.)

He really is a keeper, even though he did write 101 Amazing Things About Cat Lovers before writing his book on dogs. But I seriously could do without the nose drops.

JEDD HAFER’s canines, Theodore and Dwayne, would like you to know that Jedd loves dogs and food (but not dog food). He isâ·¯a national speaker for the Love and Logic Institute, Inc. Working with kids in trouble for the past twenty-one years, he has contributed toâ·¯Men’s Healthâ·¯and Lifetime Television’sâ·¯Teen Troubleâ·¯with Josh Shipp. Jedd is a father of four kids (who are sometimes trouble) and has written many books with his brother Todd.
