After a friend loaned me a copy of this book to look through, I knew I wanted one to keep for myself. I love the stories about the authors of these precious old hymns. It is wonderful to even read and learn about the songs I have not heard before. An enjoyable way to do daily devotionals as well as learn the history of some of the great hymns.

This book gives short bio of authors and conditions leading up to the writing of each hym and has the words to the hymn and then the music to the refrain or chorus, sometimes first lines, so I always have handy a hymnal so that I can figure out the entire melody. Very informative and inspirrational. Again, holds up well for being paperback, also easy to carry about.
