Publisher's Description

Orphaned at fifteen, Jack Hartman sought to escape his abusive and tragic past. He decided to attend the Virginia Military Institute in hopes that the opportunities it offered would help him fulfill his dream for a better life. But even the brotherhood he gained did not seem to fill the emptiness that haunted him.
Would further success at the school of his dreams do so? Would the love of a woman? Or was there a greater plan for Jack that he could not even begin to imagine?

Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  Todd Allen Henderson graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1984, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. After college, he received a commision in the Army as an infantry officer, where he served in Alaska as an Arctic Paratrooper, and in Georgia as a Ranger Instructor in the U.S. Army Ranger School. He has worked in business management for the last twenty-three years. Todd currently resides in Castalian Springs, Tennessee.

What was your motivation behind this project?  I've lived a rather novel life, so far. Plenty of ups, downs and in-betweens. But we grew up in a home with parents that loved us, and cared about us. We learned the value of hard work from a very early age, and were taught the importance of living with Christian ethics. Money was often tight growing up on the farm, but we loved being in an environment where we connected with our parents and each other. I suppose I've had my share of heartaches and setbacks, but I believe those are necessary elements to a great story. I love to write about the gritty, unpleasent events we experience, not just for the dramatic conflict, but for the reality of it. I think we all relate to that, as well. I love when a story feels as if you are swinging from tree to tree on precarious branches. I suppose one could do worse than be a swinger of birches.
