Liss5 Stars Out Of 5So good!!September 25, 2018LissQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5My oldest son and i share a love of learning but my younger 2 boys aren't always willing participants. This book gave me so many ideas of ways to make reading aloud a family experience and explained the benefits of it. Because of this book, I have made weekends our only electronic days and Monday thru Friday is unplugged only (excluding school work). It has turned up the notch of our family bonding. Highly recommended!

Poohbee5 Stars Out Of 5The Read-Aloud Family contains wonderful book lists and so much more!March 15, 2018PoohbeeQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Sarah Mackenzie shares advice and anecdotes about reading aloud and how life-changing it can be for both our children and ourselves! Why is reading aloud to our children so important? It can help our kids be more successful in school and in life, and it can help us be more present as we spend time with our children. It helps us develop and deepen our relationships with our kids. Books can be an amazing vehicle for shared experiences and a source for wonderful conversations.
I found myself highlighting many passages as I read this book. I love how real, honest, and relatable Sarah is as she provides occasional snapshots of her family life. I love that she tells me not only why I should read aloud often with my kids, but also how I can make the most of our read-aloud time. Sarah gives me the tools I need to take my current read-aloud time with my kids to a deeper level through questioning and discussions, but in a non-threatening and natural way.
Some of my favorite parts of the book are the book lists Sarah provides and the many different ways those book lists are presented. There is an annotated book list of Sarah's 20 favorite books to read aloud for each of 4 different age groups. Then, all of the books Sarah has mentioned can be located by title, by author or illustrator, and by age recommendation. I find it incredibly helpful to have the books indexed in such a variety of ways!
I highly recommend The Read-Aloud Family for anyone who wants to cherish and make the most of the time they have with the children in their lives.
(I was given an advanced reader copy from the publisher so that I might provide an honest review of this book. The opinions expressed are completely my own).
