All About Spelling takes the struggle out of spelling! Based on the Orton-Gillingham approach, this curriculum teaches encoding skills, spelling rules, and multisensory strategies to help students become proficient spellers. This mastery-based curriculum is also appropriate to use with students who have dyslexia. Students beginning the program should start with Level 1 unless they've worked with a phonogram-based program previously.
The teacher's manual includes a "Preparing for Level 3" section that provides clear action steps to help you prepare, and includes a list of materials you'll need to acquire, what will be taught, and how to set up and use the program. This section is followed by step-by-step lesson plans. Twenty-eight lessons (15-20 minutes each day) are included and each is lightly scripted for easy instruction; activities in this program engage visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning paths.
In Level 3, students will learn 10 new phonograms, the jobs of Silent E, words with c+l-e syllables, contractions, homophones, consonant and vowel suffixes, and the past tense. Students continually review through four types of flashcards: Phonogram cards, sound cards, key cards (rules or generalization about spelling), and word cards. These cards are printed on different colored paper so you can easily tell them apart; cards are lightly perforated and must be torn apart. Students will also practice with letter tiles to internalize spelling concepts before working with pencil and paper and completing dictation-based exercises.
Each level requires the Teacher's Manual and one Student Packet per student, along with an Interactive Kit. This kit includes a teacher's manual and student packet, but the Interactive kit must be purchased separately if it is not already owned.
