    Includes Errors!

I am not pleased with this newer version. We have used another math in years past, and I thought I would try Saxon because I have heard many good things about it. This version has several errors in it, mostly on the tests. Although the content seems solid, the errors frustrate me and my child! I am not pleased with this curriculum, and I am about to go back to my original math.

We did 8/7 the previous year, and last year we did Khan as our math curriculum. Khan is a fantastic supplement, but we missed the thorough explanations, and decided to switch back to Saxon. The format is drier than the the previous Saxon books, and the explanations are briefer. We ended up purchasing the Saxon Teacher DVD, which has been a great help. One frustration is that it took me awhile to figure out what the (SB) means next to the problem number in the first few lessons. This stands for Skills Bank. It's located at the back of the book for students who need help on those problems. Also, this book claims to have an online component, but whenever we enter a link, it takes us to the HMCO sales website, non an online resource.

I have been using Saxon books for years. This new book is fresh and modern. It is very appealing to the student. There are some basic features that Saxon kept in the book that are useful. The only recommendation I would make would be a review of the previous book's lessons in the beginning of the algebra book. The students are having a hard time recalling last year's work and some did not use the Saxon pre-algebra book.

This revised edition is much easier to use. The layout is simple and colorful and I have to say that as a homeschool mother I am very impressed with with this newer edition. They have made some impressive changes.
