We are currently using this product with the academy videos (rent through ABeka) and so I have no need for the daily lesson guidance. However, my younger children as they approach this subject will probably be taught directly by me. I am a good math student, but not a genius (ha ha), so I need help teaching and explaining and checking problems. For me using this curriculum and teaching it to my children with me as teacher does require each of the 4 teacher books for the Algebra 2 level.

Algebra 1 just came out with an updated addition, some of the expense is lessened as they have actually put the teaching guide into the teacher text. Though I'd prefer to have less books, I think if they combined the TE and Solutions Manual, it may be more of a book than I wish to handle daily :-) There is also a key for quizzes and tests.

ONLY answers are included in this book, how to solve each problem is in a separate book. There is NO daily lesson guide within this book. Pages 379-395 do contain a general weekly plan. It suggests what to cover including quizzes and tests, but not a daily teaching plan. This book has decent explanations and examples for each lesson. The book also contains information about some scientists and mathematicians. I do notice that unlike earlier level math texts, this book does not seem to have verses throughout the book if any at all.

This text does NO review of concepts learned outside of Algebra (essentially speaking). In earlier levels of ABeka math, or Saxon, the daily practice includes review of earlier learned content. The daily assignments will review what has been taught in this text, but no practice or review of other concepts. Our academy experience provided a daily (well like 120) exercise review warm-up. Sadly it doesn't seem to be for purchase anywhere. So reviewing and keeping sharp on previously learned concepts may be something you want to add :-)

My oldest son started ABeka math at the Pre-Algebra level and does well at this level. He has only done ABeka math with ABeka videos.

In general ABeka is a more cost effective curriculum.

This version is a Second Edition with copyright 2004
