Publisher's Description

The Raid that Rescued Us.  The Mission that Defines Our Lives.

You are trapped behind enemy lines. You feel it every day. Powerful forces want to destroy you and those you love. Completely surrounded, you see no means to escape.

Sadly, the Jesus we often picture is too timid to help—more like a daytime talk show host than a dangerous Rescuer.

Who would follow—much less risk everything—for such a leader?

Get ready to see Jesus like you’ve never seen him before—a battle-scarred Combatant who stared death in the face and won. This is no Sunday-school Jesus, meek and mild. This is the Warrior Christ who has descended from the heavens, defeated the Enemy, and rescued humanity. Now, he calls us to continue his mission and fight for others—our families, our communities, and the world.

In Jesus Was an Airborne Ranger, Army Chaplain John McDougall offers an alternative to the soft, gentle caricature of Jesus. Only the Warrior Christ can impact our broken world. And only in following him can you find the life of purpose you’ve always wanted.

SUIT UP. It’s time to enter the fight with the first and greatest Airborne Ranger.

I am SO GLAD I read Jesus Was An Airborne Ranger. It did clear up my wrong view that Jesus was so peaceful he was a limp dishrag (Father forgive me in the name of Jesus for saying that). The book captures the strength and dedication of Jesus by comparing him and his ministry to the Airborne Rangers and their mission.

The book is a good read for men, women, military and civilian. The descriptions of the work of the Airborne Rangers is described well enough to be understood by all. (Maybe not good for tender children.) If you are thinking of sending it unannounced to someone, it would be good to "grease the skids" a little before you send it.

I lived at Fort Leonard Wood in 1969; while there I saw a simple sign over the door of a WW2 era classroom: "LEAD BY EXAMPLE." That classroom was used to teach future Combat Engineers to build things while taking enemy fire. I was glad to see that phrase in the book. Every branch of the service probably uses that phrase, found on page 142.

Jesus IS an Airborne Savior because he Ascended while the disciples were watching. And however Jesus does it is better than even an Airborne Ranger does things. Airborne Rangers are a major component of the elite forces that keeps us strong as a country.

Why yes I did pick Army Chaplain John McDougall's new book Jesus Was An Airborne Ranger based completely on the title. I mean come on, that is an awesome title.

Now I know that Jesus wasn't an actual Airborne Ranger. Despite knowing that, I must say I loved all the comparisons that McDougall made about Jesus and the Rangers. Yes Jesus was the Prince of Peace but he was a fighter as well. I mean think about it, he never backed down from an argument. He may have disagreed but he always stood in truth and stated his mind.

One of my favorite quotes came from page 101:

We must stop thinking of our churches as fortresses, built to protect holy occupants from evil beyond the walls. Instead we need to see churches as forward operating bases (FOBs)- temporary havens in a hostile place where recruits can train and veterans can heal, always with the intent of going back outside the wire! Isn't that what Jesus modeled for us?

Wow. Now I will admit this book is very much intended for the guy population. But for some reason parts of this book just stuck with me. We need to fight along side our husbands. Fight for our family, our community, and most importantly Jesus' ways. This book feels more like a call to action than another feel good about Jesus book. AND I LIKE THAT!!!

So I can honestly say the Hubby wants to read it and even some of my guys friends. So my copy will definitely get a lot of good use.

I received this book from Blogging for Books in exchange for my honest review

I loved this book. I initially bought it for my grandson who wants to become a Ranger. However, after reading it, I ordered it for all the male relatives in my family . John McDougall challenges especially younger men to become a Ranger for Christ. He uses the Ranger creed to show how Jesus is on a mission into enemy territory for His Commander, God. Each chapter ends with an "After Action Review", which would make it an ideal book for a Bible study. This is truly a man's man book, exciting and challenging!
