Series: Heroes of Quantico
As Coop and his partner do their best to keep her safe, Monica's father triggers an abduction that puts his daughter's life at risk. And with every second that ticks by, Coop knows that the odds of saving the only woman who has ever breached the walls around his heart are dropping. After all, terrorists aren't known for their patience--or their mercy.
Book one in the Heroes of Quantico series, this suspense-filled novel will whisk readers along for the thrilling ride.

Author Irene Hannon cleverly weaves in strong Christian elements. Not only is forgiveness a prominent theme, but Monica and Cooper regularly engage in faith-based conversations. Cooper is initially hesitant since this way of thinking is foreign to him, but the Bible and Monicas examples of faith in action make him question his lifestyle.
Structurally, the novel moves back and forth between the perspectives of Monica and Cooper. However, at times the author does branch out, revealing the story through the eyes of both Monicas father or from the perspective of the terrorists.
Readers will gladly follow the relationship between Monica and Cooper. Both are strong, independent characters. This leads to a romance that unfolds at a gradual and satisfying pace. Overall, romance readers considering taking a turn into the world of suspense should consider Against All Odds. Andrew Culbertson, ChristianBookPreviews.com
Crystal4 Stars Out Of 5Lots of Action, But So-So Love StoryMay 17, 2017CrystalQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Monica Callahan and her father have been estranged for quite some time. So, when Monica is forced to go into protective custody under her father's directive, her resentment for her father- and his duties as a diplomat overseas- only increases. Evan "Coop" Cooper and his partner are assigned to guard Monica while her father tries to successfully negotiate the hostile hostage situation in the Middle East that is the reason behind Monica's protective measures. As the mundane days drag along during the negotiations, Monica and Coop form a bond that begins to turn into attraction. However, when the negotiations don't move fast enough for the terrorists, an American terrorist cell kidnaps Monica to put pressure on her father. In a high stakes race against time, Coop and his team must follow the clues to find Monica and hopefully save her life before it's too late.
This book had a lot of action! There were twists in the plot where the hostage situation was concerned that kept me guessing who the real enemy was. When Monica was kidnapped, Hannon did a superb job at capturing the terror one would experience- especially a woman- under those circumstances. I was surprised by Monica's father's fate, but was warmed by the reconciliation that occurred. The one area of the story that I had a hard time with was actually Monica and Coop's relationship. It was made pretty obvious from the beginning that Coop was a lady's man, so I had a hard time believing that he and Monica would actually be an item. There was just a disconnect there for me. Overall, exciting and action-packed read!

Doris WrightMorganfield, KYAge: 55-65Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5A good bookMay 8, 2011Doris WrightMorganfield, KYAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I loved this book. But, the statement in the epilogue the author made bothers me: ...he hadn't pushed her beyond her comfort level with intimacy, respecting the old-fashioned values her faith espoused...I didn't know the values in the Bible we are supposed to live by are "old-fashioned". I thought we are to live by God's word.
