EmP2416Age: 35-44Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Page Turner!May 18, 2021EmP2416Age: 35-44Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Sometimes I forget how great Blackstock's work is! "Aftermath," her newest thriller, brought back the reasons I love falling into an engrossing read--great characters, fast moving plots and a commitment to relatable faith journeys.
Blackstock delivers a relevant, current story of Jamie, a lawyer who ends up near the scene of a recent bombing, unaware of the connection she has with the man accused of the crime, her childhood friend Dustin. As Dustin tries to unravel the mess he's now in, Jamie must evaluate if she is the right person to help someone who she considered a friend. Can Dustin be trusted? Could she find a way to clear his name?
What began as Taylor and her friends attending a concert turned into a living nightmare when the explosion happened. Reeling from the loss of her friends and the trauma that followed, Taylor decides it's up to her to right the wrongs and begins her own search for the killers. Taylor also deals with the additional challenge of OCD, which I appreciated seeing in a novel. It's nice to see a diagnosis that is often misunderstood expanded on for the sake of educating readers.
Blackstock leaves the reader wanting more, so I hope this *might* become a series? The characters are well developed and relatable. The plot was thought out and resolved by the end of the book, which I appreciate.
I was an early reader, thanks to Thomas Nelson publishers and #NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Pam BurkePotosi, MOAge: 55-65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Great Characters and Engaging SuspenseMay 18, 2021Pam BurkePotosi, MOAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5When you pick up a book by Terri Blackstock, you can count on certain things: suspense, romance, great characters, exciting story line, thread of faith and hope. And that is exactly what I found in her newest book, Aftermath. I sat down with my e-reader to see how much of the story I could enjoy in one afternoon and got so involved in the story that I finished the entire thing in one sitting.
The author deals expertly with several difficult issues in this story and uses them to develop complex characters and relationships that drew me in even more this time than her trademark element of suspense. Don't worry, though, if you are a Terri Blackstock fan; suspense is definitely an important part of the story.
I highly recommend Aftermath to fans of inspirational fiction, and romantic suspense in particular. Thanks to JustRead Publicity Tours for providing a copy of the book. I am happy to share my own personal thoughts in this review.
PollymissouriAge: Over 65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5gripping tensionMay 16, 2021PollymissouriAge: Over 65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This was a very quick read for me, I just could not put it down!
From the first scene it was mesmerizing. After the *incident*, the story is told from several points of view: Taylor, who was a witness; Dustin, the accused; and Jaime, who is a defending attorney. The connection to the culprit was intricately woven into the plot. I especially liked the reunion between Jaime and Dustin who grew up next door to each other. The health issues of PTSD, OCD and cancer were very well represented and realistic. The story dealt with family, reconciliation and how faith affects our circumstances. It was great to see the growth that Dustin experienced throughout the story. * The sure knowledge that God had his back filled him with strength laced with calm. He would fight this, but would not be fighting alone.*
Ms. Blackstock has proved herself again as a wonderful suspense author. One of my favorite writers.

MJSHNJAge: 35-44Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5loved the suspenseMay 15, 2021MJSHNJAge: 35-44Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Terri Blackstock never fails to bring forth a story brimming with fast-paced action and delightful suspense. This newest from the author introduces us to two childhood friends who are brought together because of falsely accused crimes. Dustin is the typical neglected teenage bad boy who's shaped up in the army and has discovered who he is since his troubled childhood. Jaime is a defense attorney who is trying to keep her head above water at work and at home as a single mom. When Dustin is framed for theft, arson, and treason, Jaime puts everything on hold to help prove his innocence. In the midst of the action and suspense, the author sensitively addresses grief and suffering that come from watching a loved one deteriorate. The solid long-held friendship between Dustin and Jaime is sweet and tender and is highlighted more so than their budding romance, which I appreciated. I really enjoyed that the characters are deeply layered and that the author pulled emotions other than just suspense into the story line to create a full and well-rounded plot. If you enjoy romantic suspense, you will definitely enjoy this one!
I received the book from Thomas Nelson via JustRead Publicity Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are solely my own.
Mimi4 Stars Out Of 5Fast paced actionMay 15, 2021MimiWhew! What an intense story. You can always count on Terri Blackstock to give serious suspense from beginning to end.
I honestly didn't expect this story to be as fast paced as it was! It was one of those novels where you have to buckle your seatbelt and hold on tight from page 1. We initially meet Taylor and within moments of that meeting her world explodes. She was such an interesting character throughout this book. Like an onion her layers begin to peel back as she lives through a trauma.
Then of course there's Dustin, who came from a hard childhood, dusted himself off to make something of himself, and finds that he's been framed with explosives in his car. And seriously, you just feel for this guy from the moment he's stopped by the police. The more you learn about his childhood, the more you want to defend him.
Just like his childhood friend, Jamie. Good thing he knows a lawyer, eh? I loved this character. She was willing to risk her career because of her belief in Dustin. She's no nonsense and definitely follows her gut. I liked that she wasn't portrayed as cold and hard even though she typically deals with white collar crimes. She's kept her humanity about her.
While we try to follow the lead of bread crumbs the author puts in front of us, we're bombarded with information from all directions. Solving this crime doesn't take long in this book, and I can see how easy it would be to actually trace the truth through following those bread crumbs. Believe it or not, I actually got choked up during one scene in the book and it hit me out of nowhere. I didn't realize I'd become attached to the characters!
The ending of course is intense and had me biting my nails!
*I received and ARC for review. This is my personal opinion.
