GrandaddyAAge: Over 65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Faithful FriendMay 27, 2021GrandaddyAAge: Over 65Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Terri Blackstock always does a great job of keeping her readers in suspense. This story was no exception. In the opening chapters, I was reminded of similar real-life events in our country and could recall exactly where I was when I first heard about major tragedies. I remember reading of the pain and suffering that many families experienced. It made the story more real because of all the events in my own lifetime. The most interesting aspect of the story was how the different characters were all affected in different ways by the same event. If I ever found myself in a situation like Dustin was in, I hope I would have a friend like Jamie who had no reservations about her faith and belief in me and would not give up on me. The story has a powerful message and will keep the reader turning pages to find out what happens next.
ValerieAge: 45-54Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Fast-paced Mystery/ThrillerMay 25, 2021ValerieAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3As an occasional reader of suspense novels, my favorite series in this genre is the If I Run trilogy written by Terri Blackstock. Smart heroine, nonstop action, books 1 and 2 end in cliffhangers that propel the reader directly into the next installment. I had those expectations when I began reading Aftermath, also by Terri Blackstock, and that likely did this novel a disservice.
This book begins with a bang - a huge explosion occurs at a presidential candidate campaign rally, killing many and injuring more. Nearby, law enforcement swarms a vehicle and discovers boxes of explosives in its trunk. The big question is how these two events are connected.
I enjoyed this, just not as much as the If I Run series. The characters are interesting, the action is compelling but occurs on a more realistic (slower) timeline, and the ending is satisfying. The storyline about Dustin and Jamie dominates the plot and is better written. The storyline featuring Taylor seems underdeveloped and left several questions unanswered.
Thank you to Thomas Nelson and JustRead Publicity Tours for the review copy. All thoughts are my own.
Rebecca ManeyGastonia, North CarolinaAge: 55-65Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5A High Speed Thriller!May 24, 2021Rebecca ManeyGastonia, North CarolinaAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5"This was the Twilight Zone. He couldn't have been more confused if he'd been on a three-day bender, but he hadn't had a drink since he got out of the army."
Arrested, due to an anonymous tip regarding the explosive materials found in his trunk, Dustin Webb places a call to the one person who had always believed in him. Jamie Powell.
Surprised would be an understatement. Criminal attorney Jamie Powell couldn't imagine why her best friend growing up, whom she had not spoken to in years, would be calling her from the county jail. After listening to Dustin's predicament, she couldn't agree with him more, he needed legal representation quickly. Jamie was determined to learn why the authorities had arrested Dustin as a suspect in an explosives heist, in addition to an horrific downtown bombing that killed dozens of people, including an up and coming politician. He had clearly been set up.
Put on your seat belt. This amazing romantic suspense takes dips and curves at a very high speed, sending your heart into overdrive and muddling your brain to the point that you may feel as sleep deprived as the characters. Desperate people do desperate things, leaving Dustin and Jamie tangled in the "after math".

arkmom5 Stars Out Of 5Fast paced action and suspenseMay 20, 2021arkmomQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I was thrilled to get to read Terri Blackstock's latest, Aftermath. She never disappoints!
The story begins with Taylor and two of her friends at a political event where a candidate for president is to give a speech. But, they are there for the concert of one of their favorite bands prior to the speech. All of a sudden there is a huge explosion and Taylor is knocked to the ground. She is able to crawl her way out of the building, when she then realizes her friends aren't with her. What just happened?
Dustin Webb is found with explosives in the trunk of his car and he suddenly finds himself under arrest, and then suspected of the bombing which killed and injured many.
He calls his childhood friend, Jamie, who is now an attorney. Jamie is thrilled to finally hear from Dustin after all these years. But, why did he wait so long to call her? They had once been such close friends. He didn't even call when she lost her husband to a drug overdose.
She believes in Dustin's innocence is determined to prove it.
Taylor's OCD is getting out of control, but she tries to hide it from her sister. She can hardly function and her thoughts are running rampant. She has so much guilt over surviving while her two friends did not. She feels she can make things right if she eliminates the one charged with the crime.
This is just an incredible story that deals with so many things-trauma, OCD, cancer, family, friends, faith. I could go on and on. Just read this latest book of Terri Blackstock's. You will not be disappointed.
I was given an advanced ecopy by the publisher, Thomas Nelson and Netgalley. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review.
