Kendra5 Stars Out Of 5fun activities that spur creativity and interest in natureApril 17, 2018KendraQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 3This hardcover gift-style book includes 60 activities for children ages 8 and up. Based on the cover copy, which claims that this book is the perfect companion to the Adventure Bible, I was expecting something different than what this book is--maybe activities that put historical or cultural context to Bible stories or something. Making a sling like David used may fit that expectation, but in general I'm left thinking that the Adventure Bible logo is mostly a marketing tactic.
What the book does include is a wide variety of activities (geocaching, camping, finger weaving, making rock candy, sidewalk tic-tac-toe, painting pet rocks...), of which there should be something appealing for every kid. The title claim of "daring" and "epic" is somewhat overblown, but that's okay with me because my kids think up enough daring and dangerous ideas already. =) Safety is stressed in all the activities. I really like that it gets kids outside and using creative imagination instead of technology.
The pages are thick paper and full color, with step-by-step instructions for completing the activity. Most of the activities require only simple household items. Each activity includes a "think about this" box that draws a spiritual analogy and a Bible verse. For example, with the preparing a "Hiking Essentials Pack" activity, the verse is I Peter 3:15 and the thought is "When hiking, it is important to be prepared in the case of an emergency. It's just as important to be ready to give an answer to people when they ask about Jesus."
The only activity that caused concern is the one about compass reading, which basically says the needle points to the north pole and you can follow it to walk north. I know this is a basic book for kids, but a compass points to magnetic north, and using a compass is more complicated and skilled than this simplistic explanation.
My kids are too young, but its the kind of activities I'm sure they'll love when they're older. I can see this book being a good resource for a kids club, birthday party activities, or "rainy day" ideas.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my review.
SandyDWest Fargo, NDAge: 45-54Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Awesome activities!April 16, 2018SandyDWest Fargo, NDAge: 45-54Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book is a lot of fun! We have an Adventure Bible, and when I saw this Adventure Bible activity book, I just had to get it. There are so many fun things to do in this book. Kids love crafts and this book will definitely keep them busy, crafting away! The activities inside also have a Bible verse that goes along with it. So not only are your kids making fun crafts, they are also learning Bible verses, and important lessons as well.
There are some great activities for Spring time in this book. One being make making your own bird feeder! I, myself am excited to try the one on how to make your own solar oven. :)
Overall, this book is great, and my kids love it, too! I definitely recommend it!
HeidiSays5 Stars Out Of 5Great book for homeschoolersApril 6, 2018HeidiSaysQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Oh my gosh! I love this book! A few years ago, we received a copy of The Adventure Bible to review. I thought it was a great Bible for kids and ended up sharing it with my pastor so that he could give it to a child who didn't have a Bible.
This book, I'm keeping, though! It is full of so many great ideas for activities and crafts. We are a homeschool family with only one child left to homeschool and he often gets bored. Rather than ending up in front of the TV, I'm hoping this book will inspire him to try some new things. Some of the crafts will require minimal parental supervision, but most of the ideas are ones that he will be able to do on his own (at age 12).
There are a few ideas that I'm excited to get started on right away, such as the Build Your Own Bird Feeder, the Rock Messages, the T-shirt Bag, and the Wonderful Wind Chimes. Most of the ideas contain items that you are sure to already have on hand or can easily find in nature, which is a huge plus. I tend to like instant gratification and, if I have to go to the store and purchase things for crafts, I tend to lose the momentum.
This book retails for $12.99 and is definitely worth the cover price!

This activity book was written by Sherry Kyle. The darling illustrations throughout the book were done by Dave Smith. The cover illustration, that would catch any eye, was done by Jim Madsen.
There are 60 fun activities that will hold the attention of young kids - up to about middle school, Id say. My grandson is going to love it! Along with the activity is a memory verse and a THINK ABOUT THIS, that correlates the activity to growing in God.
I would recommend this book to maybe 7 or 8 up to about middle school.
