Every year Americans spend billions of dollars on material items at Christmas. Is this the way to celebrate the birth of Jesus, who gave up his riches to save the world? In the book, Advent Conspiracy: Can Christmas Still Change the World?, pastors Rick McKinley, Chris Seay, and Greg Holder show you how to substitute consumption with compassion by practicing four simple countercultural concepts:
- Worship Fully - Because Christmas begins and ends with Jesus!
- Spend Less - And free your resources for things that truly matter.
- Give More - Of your presence: your hands, your words, your time, your heart.
- Love All - The poor, the forgotten, the marginalized, the sick, in ways that make a difference.
Note: The book includes a Small Group DVD Guide for those participating in a small group or watching the video (SKU: 324423) individually.

My only recommendation it to NOT use this in Advent. It's too late to make an impact. Use this in October or November to get people thinking differently for the upcoming Advent and Christmas seasons. It is relevant, thought provoking, Biblical, yet not preachy. As someone who works professionally in the church, I seek quality resources for our members, however I often don't expect them to effect me and change me as much as this series did.

Heather5 Stars Out Of 5December 7, 2009HeatherI was excited to read this book because it promised to explore whether Christmas can still change the world. For me, Christmases have begun to blur together year as Ive grown older, and Ive felt like I must be missing something. Advent Conspiracy is a short but thought provoking read which inspired me with stories of people who have found ways to make Christmas about meaningful giving. Instead of spending time with wish lists, we can make a tangible difference in the quality of life that people around the world. I hope to share this books principles with my family members this Christmas so we can celebrate with more joy and more compassion for others. The book has also challenged me to think carefully about how we teach our young son about Christmas so that he will grow up with a heart for others and not a desire for accumulating more things.
Eric Pagan5 Stars Out Of 5November 7, 2009Eric PaganThis book is an invitation to celebrate Christmas in a way that is more true to the original Christmas story. In it, we are encouraged to Spend Less, Give More, Worship Fully, and Love All this Christmas. The Advent Conspiracy DVD is a great 4 week study that would be perfect for a small group to study through in the Advent season. Discussion questions for the DVD are located in the back of the book.
Daniel L VanGent5 Stars Out Of 5October 19, 2009Daniel L VanGentThis incredible book will change the way you look at Christmas! It provides a great combination of conceptual thoughts and practical ideas. We may all want to "keep Christ in Christmas", but the Advent Conspiracy gives great guidance in how to actually accomplish that. We're using it for our small group study. Highly recommend!
