Publisher's Description

Worship More, Spend Less, Give Presence, Love All Are you tired of how consumerism has stolen the soul of Christmas? This year, take a stand! Join the groundswell of Christ-followers who are choosing to make Christmas what it should be—a joyous celebration of Jesus’ birth that enriches our hearts and the world around us, not a retail circus that depletes our pocketbooks and defeats our spirits. Advent Conspiracy shows you how to substitute consumption with compassion by practicing four simple but powerful, countercultural concepts: Worship Fully—because Christmas begins and ends with Jesus! Spend Less—and free your resources for things that truly matter. Give More—of your presence: your hands, your words, your time, your heart. Love All—the poor, the forgotten, the marginalized, and the sick in ways that make a difference. Find out how to have a Christmas worth remembering, not dreading. Christmas can still change the world when you, like Jesus, give what matters most—your presence.

We have offered this series on Sunday morning, in a weekday Women's class, and in two small group Bible studies. My only recommendation it to NOT use this in Advent. It's too late to make an impact. Use this in October or November to get people thinking differently for the upcoming Advent and Christmas seasons. It is relevant, thought provoking, Biblical, yet not preachy. As someone who works professionally in the church, I seek quality resources for our members, however I often don't expect them to effect me and change me as much as this series did.

A very timely book challenging God's people to turn our focus from consumerism back to the real meaning of Christmas by spending less, giving more, loving all and to worship fully. Well done!

I was excited to read this book because it promised to explore whether Christmas can still change the world. For me, Christmases have begun to blur together year as Ive grown older, and Ive felt like I must be missing something. Advent Conspiracy is a short but thought provoking read which inspired me with stories of people who have found ways to make Christmas about meaningful giving. Instead of spending time with wish lists, we can make a tangible difference in the quality of life that people around the world. I hope to share this books principles with my family members this Christmas so we can celebrate with more joy and more compassion for others. The book has also challenged me to think carefully about how we teach our young son about Christmas so that he will grow up with a heart for others and not a desire for accumulating more things.

This book is an invitation to celebrate Christmas in a way that is more true to the original Christmas story. In it, we are encouraged to Spend Less, Give More, Worship Fully, and Love All this Christmas. The Advent Conspiracy DVD is a great 4 week study that would be perfect for a small group to study through in the Advent season. Discussion questions for the DVD are located in the back of the book.

This incredible book will change the way you look at Christmas! It provides a great combination of conceptual thoughts and practical ideas. We may all want to "keep Christ in Christmas", but the Advent Conspiracy gives great guidance in how to actually accomplish that. We're using it for our small group study. Highly recommend!
