Product Description

In What About Free Will?, Scott Christensen explains two views that acknowledge God's sovereignty and its relation to human responsibility: compatibilism and libertarianism. Providing cogent, biblical answers, Christensen argues for compatibilism and shows how it makes sense of evil, suffering, prayer, evangelism, and sanctification. In this book you will gain a deeper understanding of both arguments, as well as a greater appreciation for the significant role that choices play in God's work.

Endorsements

A clear, intelligent, immensely helpful overview of one of the most confusing conundrums in all of theology. . . . Scott Christensen doesn't sidestep the hard questions. The answers he gives are thoughtful, biblical, satisfying, and refreshingly coherent. Lay readers and seasoned theologians alike will treasure this work.
-John F. MacArthur,
Grace Community Church

Careful in description and argument . . . eminently readable. . . . Most important of all, this book breathes a spirit of wonder and gratitude before the face of a God who is not only all-powerful but good.
-Michael Horton,
Westminster Seminary California

Many think that free will is the silver-bullet answer to some of theology's most difficult questions. But do we have a free will? Short answer: it depends on what you mean by 'free.' Long answer: read this book.
-Andrew Naselli,
Bethlehem College and Seminary

When a book get's endorsements from men of God like Dr. D.A. Carson, Dr. Michael Horton, and Dr. John MacArthur what more could I add? :-) I'll give it a try and share some thoughts from a young man who has been to Bible College, loves theology, and loves Jesus Christ.

This book is a 21st Century successor to Johnathan Edward's work "The Freedom of the Will". For the average Christian who doesn't have the time, ability, or resources to comb through large theological tomes in order to understand the relationship between God's Kingly Freedom over His creation this is the book for you. I believe all Christians must read this book not just Pastors and leaders.

In this book Scott gives Biblical, logical, and historical reasons and arguments for Biblical Compatibilism (The Reformed/Calvinist position on the relationship between God's sovereignty and human will) and he demonstrates and shows WHY the Libertarian view (The Arminian position on the relationship between God's sovereignty and human will) of human freedom is inadequate, Sub-biblical, and in some cases actually Unbiblical.

This is a fairly easy book to read but does require some concentration with clear and critical thinking to understand some concepts. The reader might want to digest and ponder certain sections to really understand what is being said. I really believe that when the reader does this, "light bulbs" will go off in the mind as people come to understand that God is King and Lord over all of His creation. Scott includes definitions to many important words that are used in the book and also footnotes and book suggestions for further reading. I am very happy and pleased that he included those features because I'm a facts, lists, and theology nerd that wants and needs that information available to me.

This book has real life practical implications for our Christian life and theology. Theology matters. Doctrine matters. This book matters and you should read it, even in the end if you don't agree with everything. You will gain a much greater understanding of the issues at hand and will grow in your walk with the Lord. I give this book an A+.

Please get a copy for yourself and buy copies for your friends! I have literally waited many years for someone to write a book like this and it's finally here, thank God! The Lord answered my prayers. Thank you Scott for doing the Church of Jesus Christ a great service.
