This book is 165 pages of fun, colorful and easy math lessons for a kindergarten level child that wont overwhelm them like a lot of other homeschool curriculums do. We have tried BJU, Lifepac, Horizons, Christian Liberty Press, and a few others and A Beka is always the best in quality, design and price.

This is a colorful workbook with pages that are basic, not overwhelming with lots of work. My daughter really enjoys this book wanting to do more!

I purchased this book because my daughter is struggling with the math she is working on (purchased from a different website) and I needed her to fill in some gaps. I had determined to go with A Beka for 1st grade math so thought their K5 would be the best way to fill in the gaps. Because I am using it as a fill in I did not attempt to purchase a teacher guide to accompany the book. Through some research on their website, and what I was looking at here on CBD, there is not a teacher guide released for this book until July 2014.

My observations about this book:

There is not a workbook page for each lesson.

There is a lot of time introducing the numbers, and practice reading and writing them.

From the beginning, pennies and analog clocks are incorporated in the activities.

Actual addition problems seem to start from about lesson 57 (wb pg 45).

Number writing goes up to 100.

There really is no colors, shapes and such that are related to math in this book (probably in the k4 book.)

Lots of repetition

For my child some of this basic content is very necessary both to build confidence and to soak up concepts that were skimmed over in the other curriculum we used. Math can become tough over time and a solid foundation and understanding of the numbers is vital. It is possible that some children at the kinder age are more advanced than this and ready to move on to the next level. IF you think that may be your child can they mentally do single digit addition and subtraction? Each parent must evaluate the individual student as to what level they are ready for.

The quality of the book is good and is set at a very reasonable price. It meets my expectations, but wouldn't say it is the most amazing book so gets 4 out of 5. (I'd give it 4 1/2 if I could.)
