Tell us a little about yourself. I served in the United States Army for 11 years. After living most of those years focused on myself and my career, I was swept away by the love of our Creator. I started volunteering with Compassion International and Holt International at every concert within a 6 hour drive from me. At one of those concerts, the speaker made the all too true statement, "you can't change the world, but you can change the world for one child". I jumped head first into adoption and trying to be a voice for those whose voices can't be heard. I believe we are all called to adopt/foster and care for every single sweet child on this earth. No child should grow up without love and without family.
What was your motivation behind this project? Once I got matched with my amazing son in China, I tried to find books that I could read to explain adoption to him. I didn't just want to explain adoption though, I wanted him to truly understand our Savior and why we ALL so desperately need to be adopted. Adoption is the Gospel. I couldn't find the book that I knew I wanted to read to him... so I wrote it.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope this book is read to every child and that they feel the love and hope behind every single word. Even if you are still waiting to find your family, please know that you have a Heavenly Father who loves you and rejoices over you.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I wrote this the first week that I brought my first son home (at the age of 2). Every page was written with love that I never knew I had in me before I met him. Becoming a mother and knowing how deeply I feel every emotion for my children has given me a small glimpse into understanding how our Father sees us.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? My inspiration comes from every tiny face searching for the love of family and every family who chooses to live the gospel and embrace the calling to care for them.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: For every child that reads this, know that you are loved and seen by God our Father. Even before the earth was formed, God knew you and loved you. Your story is important and you are special. You have a Heavenly Father who sees you and who loves you more than any of us can imagine.
