When Tilly Hargreaves and her three nieces are stranded at his small stagecoach station in an abandoned town and threatened by outlaws, Nolan West must protect them. And the only way he can do that is by pretending he's married to Tilly. But can the former solider, whose only wish is for solitude, stop himself from growing attached to his temporary family?
Tilly knows the charade is necessary to keep her and the girls safe, but now her heart is in danger. The longer she pretends the stoic station agent is her husband, the more genuine their union feels. Nolan believes he's better off alone, but Tilly's certain that if he'd only open his heart to his make-believe family, he'd want to claim them as his for real.

They say opposites attract and that certainly seems to be the case here! Nolan West is a man of order, cleanliness & solitude, that's why he took the stagecoach post in an abandoned town. Used to being on his own, it throws his well-ordered world upside down when Tilly and her three nieces make for unexpected long-term guests. Or at least until the next stagecoach comes through. Ah, the plans of mice and men! Throw in three wanted outlaws who hold them hostage in town and you got yourself the makings of a good old wild west story.
Tilly and her nieces cause a lot of ruckus & disorder, something Nolan has a hard time with. Both are hiding behind a past riddled with strife. They must learn to work together to protect the girls and find a way to survive until help can come. The author throws in a few unexpected twists to make you keep turning the pages to see how things turn out. A highly entertaining read!
There was one draw back for me, the faith-theme was weak. I love reading Love Inspired books for the faith and seeing God work in the characters. I come to expect it in every story & anticipate how God will speak to me in my own life. While this was well-written and I still recommend it to readers of historical fiction, if you're looking for the inspirational thread, you won't find it very strong here.
All in all, a good story to get lost in and anticipate how things will turn out right in the end!

When she is in charge of her sisters kids, she feels like she will never live up to her sisters expectation (as usual). When she is put into a life or death situation she must depend on the standoffish, yet handsome station manager.
Nolan West is fine in an abandoned town, yet when he is put to the test he will protect Tilly and her nieces at any cost. Nolan and Tilly must work together, despite their complete opposite personalities.
This novel is full of excitement, mystery, suspense and more. I enjoyed getting to know both Nolan and Tilly better. They each have much to learn about themselves and each other, all while trying to keep a group of outlaws at bay.
If you like mystery, suspense, historical romance books you will enjoy this one.
KavRCanadaGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Great readMarch 31, 2017KavRCanadaGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I got such a chuckle out of this mix-matched pair. Nolan is such a recluse he's almost forgotten how to hold a conversation and Tilly is a chattering magpie who notices everything. Including Nolan's odd idiosyncrasies -- the compulsions that settle his war-ravaged nerves and the reason he's a recluse in the first place.
So when Tilly and her nieces make an unexpected layover at his station, he can't wait until the next stagecoach comes along to take them off his hands because Tilly makes him more than a little nervous. "She kept staring at him as though he was a knot she wanted to unravel." Poor Nolan, Tilly has his knots tied up in knots and he knows if she stays any longer he's going to trip up and start talking about things better left unsaid.
And then the outlaws ride into town and things get even more interesting. Nolan finds himself the sole protector of three precocious children and an independent heroine with winsome ways. There's subtle humour, outrageous bad guys, plenty of turns in a twisty plot and the hope in a future neither every dared to dream about.

The cover of this book doesn't really "tell the story", or most of it anyway! Most of the story takes place at a lonely stagecoach stop where Nolan is the resident and takes care of the place and people who stop there. That's the way he likes it. He's been in the Civil War and survived the horrors he had to go through. All he wants is to be alone now. However, he doesn't plan on Tilly being stranded there with some children. He and Tilly have to pretended they are married due to a suspenseful situation. The whole story line is so engrossing! I loved the characters and the "peek" into Nolan's psyche. The suspense, the characters, the loneliness of the setting - I loved it all! Even Tilly had past issues she had to work through. There were so many struggles and triumphs!
I highly recommend this book. You'll be glad you picked it up! It will keep you reading far into the night like it did me!
