od20085 Stars Out Of 5Great overviewFebruary 17, 2022od2008Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5If you do not uphold the historical Biblical sexual ethic, this is not going to be your book. But, if you do, this is a great resource and introduction for students to thinking biblically about their choices and views. It is not comprehensive by any means, and at times I wished there were more explanations given, but at the same time, this is short enough for students to quickly engage with and pursue more information as they desire.
Youth Pastor1 Stars Out Of 5Very ToxicJanuary 30, 2022Youth PastorQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1This book started off great talking about culture, but as it went on to talk about social issues with youth, it became very toxic. It does not give advice on how to talk to youth about dating, sex, or sexuality. Instead, it teaches you to shame students if they are not living a conservative Christian life. It talks about a student who was struggling with having a sexual relationship with their significant other, then said that they could not be a Christian if they were having sex. It feeds the toxicity of the church, this book being published in 2020 should have done better on how to have these conversations with youth.
I had to read this for class, and it is a book I will never use again.
TBright5 Stars Out Of 5Must-ReadJanuary 17, 2021TBrightQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is the best practical Christian world-view book for teens I have ever read. It is up-to date, clear, biblically sound, and easy to read. But it is not just for teens - it's helpful for parents too. The authors do an excellent job of explaining the cultural moment our young people are facing, and then they go through a lie-truth-redemption model to explain how to biblically think about each topic. I took a week this summer and read through it with my 3 teen girls. I highly recommend adding it to your must-read list. It would make a great small-group book study for youth groups, christian schools, or families.
