A Stolen Heart by Amanda Cabot is the story of Lydia Crawford, who traveled from New York to Texas to meet her Fianc. The only problem was when she arrived, she discovers that he is already married and not only is he married but it seems that he has disappeared leaving his pregnant wife behind. Lydia not knowing what she should do decides to stay in Cimarron Creek since she has no family left in New York and she gave up her job already. But did she really want to stay in a town with resentment for Northerners and an abundance of secrets?

Sheriff Travis Whitfield is determined to uncover the mysterious disappearance of Edgar Ellis. Did he run away or did someone attack him. Is he dead or alive? Then he has the puzzle of Miss Lydia Crawford. He knows that she came looking for Edgar but will not say what their relationship was. He knows that since their last names are not the same, they are not brother and sister but it is strange that she showed up so soon after he disappeared...

Then mysterious things start happening, Stores are robbed but the thief did not take the most valuable things and there were no signs of a break in, a barn was set on fire, pigs were poisoned and it seems that someone attacked Mrs Opal. Are all of these things connected? There has never been trouble in Cimarron Creek before Lydia came, could the events be connected to her? Then when Lydia is accused of murder it is up to Travis and Lydia's Friend Catherine to clear her name. Can they prove her innocence before the town decides her fate?

So A Stolen Heart is Book one in the Cimarron Creek Trilogy and I cannot wait for the next book! I loved the characters and the way Mrs. Cabot described the town and the residents there. Though the genre is Historical Romance there was so much more to the story, There was romance, suspense, mystery and a small bit of dangerJ

My only issue was the end. It came to such a climatic ending and then it was like Poof everything was as it should be, almost like nothing had happened. It just seemed to come together too easy at the end but otherwise it was a fantastic book.

Overall I give it 4 out of 5 Stars ****

A Stolen Heart was an awesome read! For starters, I really liked the premise of why Lydia went to Cimarron Creek and how she handles herself when she discovers that her fiance has disappeared AND is married to another woman. Great conflict from the start. I also fell in love with Aunt Bertha, such a gentle and generous woman. She was the voice of reason for both Lydia and Travis.

The backcover copy doesn't make this historical novel sound like a mystery, but it is! Of course, it is more romance than mystery, but the mystery behind some unsolved crimes adds more depth to this novel and allows for a spectacular ending. A Stolen Heart is a story of prejudice. This is also a story of mysteries of fires, death of animals an people, missing people and misunderstandings and believe it or not even worse than that - if that is even possible. Lydia faces a lot of North/South prejudice on her journey to Texas to her Aunt's. She goes there to meet up with her fianc but she gets there to find him gone and married already. She meets the sherriff and good that she did - personally and well not so personally. This book is brilliant, exciting, exhilarating, mysterious, grievous, infuriating, and flamboyant. You go through so many emotions with this book and you definitely love this book when you are done. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A Stolen Heart by Amanda Cabot

Lydia Crawford is moving to Cimarron Creek to be with her fianc Edgar. During her travels and as she arrives in town, although the Civil War has been over for years, she is dealt with racial stigmatism because she is from the North. When Lydia arrives in town she discovers her fianc is missing. But she discovers a lot more than a missing fianc.

Lydia meets up with Travis, the town sheriff, and Aunt Bertha. Both of them welcome Lydia with open arms. But Lydia is more reserved with Travis.

Cimarron Creek is full of secrets and mysteries that will keep you guessing about the townspeople. This novel is fast moving, it has some great people who have a heart in this small town you just have to know who you can trust, the story is filled with forgiveness, and love. Amanda Cabot will not disappoint her readers or new readers with A Stolen Heart!
