Booklover105 Stars Out Of 5I love Charm!November 3, 2016Booklover10Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5When I am looking for a nice, relaxing author to read, I always go to Shelley Shepard Gray. Her books are never too long, have beautiful covers, and make me wish there were more pages. Some authors add a lot of pages and it leaves me wishing they had simplified things. But the authors that leave me wishing for more are the ones I add to my favorites list.
Simon is a little rough around the edges. He made some poor choices based on things that had happened to him in his past. Because these are the type of kids I work with, I understood a little more of why he did the things he did. However, consequences still had to happen and he still had to seek forgiveness from those he wronged.
Amelia is loved by her community and, as you can imagine, they don't want her to be negatively influenced by hanging around a boy like Simon. She is not to be deterred, though.
Simon has to learn to really and truly forgive himself and move forward as a changed man. Amelia has to learn to trust and forgive, as well. But just like in any relationship, other family members are involved and like to offer their own opinions. It's up to Amelia and Simon to make their own choices and decisions about the future of their relationship.
I absolutely love Charm. My favorite thing about this series is that Gray mixes humor, romance, and life together into a beautiful story.
I received this book free from Litfuse Publicity Group.
tammycookblogsbooks4 Stars Out Of 5A Sister's WishNovember 1, 2016tammycookblogsbooksQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Shelley Shepard Gray has released her third novel in her Charmed Amish Life series, A Sister's Wish. I couldn't wait to read this book set in Charm, Ohio to see what happens in the life of another Kinsinger sibling. There is so much more to this story than Amelia Kinsinger and her love interest, Simon Hochstetler. I read an interview with Shelley that said this series is "full of drama" and that is the truth. There is much pain revealed from parental abuse, mistrust, and grief. But there is also acceptance, forgiveness, and redemption.
Amelia's a little too sheltered by her family for my liking. but they more I read the more it made sense. Everyone seems to forget that Amelia is an adult now. But they can't forget all the mistakes Simon has repented of. I was surprised with the introduction of Simon's sister, Tess. This was an unexpected addition of the story that I enjoyed. Simon and Tess's story was heartbreaking. The terrible effects of abuse is not shied away from in this story.
In A Sister's Wish, relationships are tested. It made me wonder if someone can really move forward from a checkered past. It was good to read about the importance of family and that it is okay to be vulnerable. I enjoyed this sweet romance filled with love for family. Getting to know all the Kinsingers throughout this series has been fun. I am glad there is one more book left to read in the Charmed Amish Life series. I was provided a complimentary review copy of this book. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255.
MillstreetreaderAge: 55-65Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5BOOK THREE IN THE CHARMED AMISH LIFE SERIESNovember 1, 2016MillstreetreaderAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4The scars of domestic abuse, the destructive powers of secrets and lies, and the even stronger power of forgiveness, truth, and new chances are the dominant themes of this novel and AN AMISH FAMILY CHRISTMAS which follows.. For readers who have not started the series, I recommend getting all four books; you'll want to know all members of the Kinsinger family. Plus they are quick reads; I read each book in just a few hours. While I always have minor problems reconciling what the Amish characters do (and don't do) in Amish fiction with the strict behavior of our real life Old Order Amish neighbors, I thought Gray's books were well written and entertaining. If you know someone who likes Amish fiction, this series would be a great Christmas gift. The themes of forgiveness and starting over make them solid choices for church libraries. I received copies of this novels from Litfuse.
Lorraine AAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A Sister's WishOctober 31, 2016Lorraine AAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I so enjoyed my time back in the quaint little town of Charm, Ohio visiting with my friends one more time and catching up with their lives.
Amelias pet goat, Princess, has caused her to break her leg and get bit by a snake. Amelia was trying to put her in her stall but Princess wouldnt budge. She sensed the snake in the hay. Unfortunately, Amelia didnt see it before she landed on it.
Simon Hochstelter, a boy Amelia has loved since childhood, returned to the Amish after a very troubled rumspringa. He is Lukas best friend but his past troubles Lukas. Especially the spending time in prison part. Best friend or not, Lukas wants someone else for his little sister.
Simon has feelings for Amelia and wants to court her. She had been sheltered by her siblings since the fire that took the life of their father. With no parents, Lukas stepped right into the role of head of the household. He has censored her would be suitors much to her dismay. Of course, with Simons return, hes the only one she wants.
Will Lukas give in to her wishes? Does she stand up for herself and show her siblings that she can make decisions for herself?
This is another well written story by one of my favorite authors. Youll definitely want to read this series! Thank you Shelley Shepard Gray!!
Kristieupstate NYAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5love this continuation of the series!October 30, 2016Kristieupstate NYAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Shelley Shepard Gray is back with two new Amish novels, one being a Christmas one! These are books #3 in her Charmed Amish LIfe series.
In "A Sister's Wish" Simon returns home following a stint serving time in prison and he is determined to make better choices and a better life than the horrible childhood he had. Amelia appears to be the perfect Amish woman and she has been in love with Simon; but of course no one would think of them being together. This is such a touching and emotional story of secrets, hurts, love and forgiveness as well as trying to forge new life and move on.
"An Amish Family Christmas" is a sweet story that is filled with hope and love and will put the reader in a Christmas spirit. Levit has been feeling lost and that he doesn't really fit back into life in Charm. This changes when Julia seeks his help and he finds himself suddenly filled with purpose and actually at home; but it seems too good to be true. As secrets and pasts are shared, this may end up being the happiest Christmas for all.
I love Shelley's writing and really enjoyed this return to Charm and the people in this Amish community. This two stories are not to be missed by fans of Amish fiction and also fans of Christmas stories.
