A Promise Of Hope : A Novel (Kauffman Bakers Series )

    By: A y Clipston

A Promise Of Hope is a novel and the second book in Kauffman Bakers series by Amy Clipston. Wow, A Promise Of Hope was awesome. The story and the characters both were so real. There were tears in my eyes several times . The author had me hooked right at the start and I did not want to put it down till the end. Clipston writes of lost , hurt, love , faith, forgiveness, and second chances. The Amish are human and do make mistakes. Sarah loses her husband ,Peter , in a fire and she is left to raise her unborn twins. She discovers things about Peter that totally shocks her. Why did he not tell her the truth? A stranger, Luke, comes looking for Peter, but he did not know he was dead. He also finds out things about Peter he did not know. Peter had told his wife that he did not have any family . Who is Luke and what does he want?

I was given a copy of this book as a gift , but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.

I was not even close to being prepared for what was revealed in the first few pages of A Promise of Hope!

Imagine finding out that someone who was known for his heroism is hiding deep, dark secrets

Now, Im not completely gullible enough to believe that the Amish do not make mistakes. I know better; theyre human beings just like the rest of us. But shouldnt their vows cause them to try harder (than most of us) to do the right thing ?

Amy Clipston is such an amazing writer that she knows better than to make her characters perfect, or nearly perfect. Instead, she dwells on how they try to do the right thing at least most of them most of the time.

A Promise of Hope is exactly that

People who make mistakes, but try harder to do whats right. Thats the sort of characters Amy writes about characters easy to like, yet some with a past just waiting to catch up with them.

And it was very easy to get caught up in this story even from the very beginning when an English woman from his past shows up asking Luke questions about his brother. After she divulges where Peter is living, Luke decides to pay him a visit.

The first novel in the series centered around Jessica and Lindsay, two young girls whose parents had passed away. When Luke arrives in Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania, he meets Lindsay, who is adapting well to Amish life.

But what does he do when Peter isnt there and no one seems to know just who Peter really was!

I love this series. Even though I now own every novel and novella about the Kauffman family, Im still sad when I get to the end of a book.

I enjoyed this second installment of the Kauffman Amish Bakery series for the most part. Sarah is a young widow pregnant with twins, and grieving her husband's death. A relative of her husband, Luke, comes to town to check on him, except Sarah was told her husband was an orphan. The misunderstandings piled on from there. I get that Sarah was grieving, but the whining was overdone. I found several distracting repetitive phrases sprinkled throughout the book. I hope the third book is better, because I like the storyline of the series and will continue reading for that reason.
