Debs Dozen: Even the Most Powerful Men Can Be Dethroned by a Powerful Secret.

With The Worthington Destiny: A Powerful Secret, Dr. Kevin Leman and Jeff Nesbits latest mystery/suspense book, they have scored a hit again. I was thrilled with the first book in the series, A Perfect Ambition (see my review here) and have been waiting for this sequel to come out. They did not disappoint.

Sean Worthington, the second sibling in the wealthy and powerful Worthington family, is stunned when his brother, Will, instead of launching his campaign for the US Senate, goes on stage and announces he is withdrawing from the contest. Sean, his campaign manager, has no clue why Will would do this or what has caused such aberrant behavior in his brother. Will wont tell him, and, as usual, their father backs his perfect son.

Sean does what Sean always doesruns. Frustrated by his fathers lack of belief in him, he runs off to one of the NGOs (non-government organization) he is contemplating supporting in Nepal. While there, he decides he will do the unexpectedhe will run for Governor of New York, thereby killing two birds with one stone. He can return the call to the political powerbroker and tell her he doesnt know why Will withdrew his candidacy, but he himself is tossing his hat into the ring.

His actions set off a powder keg of events leading to the revelation of a powerful secret which changes everything.

Leman/Nesbit have fleshed out the character of Sean in this book. While we got to know a bit about him in the first, Wills book, we get even deeper into his psyche in A Powerful Secret. We learn much more about all the members of the Worthington family and what makes them tick. I have come to care for and be intrigued by the siblings: Will, Sean, and Sarah and am waiting with anticipation for Book Three: A Primary Decision. Good job, guyseven better than the first. Five stars!

Dr. Kevin Leman is the author of more than fifty books and a frequent guest on such shows as Fox & Friends, The 700 Club, CNN, and Good Morning America. His co-author, Jeff Nesbit, is a former senior communications official at the White House and the author of twenty novels.

Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, gave me a copy of A Powerful Secret in exchange for my unbiased review.

The Worthington Destiny series is written by two authors, Dr Kevin Leman and Jeff Nesbit. Typically, I'm not a large fan of dual written works. They tend to lurch from scene to scene and have a lack of continual flow. If you are with me on that assessment, you can put that concern out of your mind for this series. It reads perfectly, and I honestly can not tell who wrote what and if/or when the authors switched. It is seamlessly written, and, as is important to me, there were no grammar errors or writing mistakes that I noted. The style is crisp, clean and well suited to a fast paced, legal thriller.

I love the strong family themes that run through these books. There is an unshakable loyalty amongst the siblings and parents of the Worthington family that is powerful and moving to read. I particularly relate to the bond between the three siblings. Will is the rock. As the oldest sibling, he is willing to do whatever it takes to protect his younger siblings and his parents. He makes the hard calls when he needs to and is ok with taking heat if that means the family will be alright. Sean, as much as he's a wild card, has a deep heart. He cares deeply for his family even though he doesn't always understand it. He respects and secretly wishes he was more like Will, but has not yet realized that he has his own, unique contribution to make to the family. Sarah is the baby. Everyone wants to protect her and keep her safe. Even though she's a grown woman with a successful job, it is still taking time for the family to realize that she's not the baby girl anymore. Throw these three together with all their different personality types and ways of approaching a problem and you have an "Avengers" worthy team.

As the authors specialize in studying the characteristics of birth order you can really see the different roles playing out in the book. I find it fascinating to read the same problems from different sibling point of view. It is a powerful and enlightening perspective.

The Worthingtons are an unique family - not everyone can change the world with their billions of dollars... but at the same time they are like many families. The complexities of personalities, the fierce protectiveness for ones own family, and the love are themes that carry into real life families. I appreciated this about these books.

As far as the plot goes in this latest book, the Worthingtons are neck deep in political intrigue and drama. Government and enterprise mix deceptively and someone is out to take this blue blood family down. With friends and enemies indiscernible, the Worthingtons have to access every resource at their vast disposal and put their heads together to get out of a vicious cycle of black mail to maintain their family honour, dignity, and fortune.

This was a really great novel and I would certainly recommend both books in this new series.

I have read both of these men's works in the past and I was excited to see their collaboration. This book is a little off my normal beaten path, as sweet romance is not involved, however it was a pleasant change of pace and this book was quite engaging. This novel centers around 2 powerful brothers whose lives are drastically changed when, Will, the eldest brother, dramatically backs out of his bid for the Senate spot that he has been eyeing. While this in itself may not sound like a thrilling premise for a book, it absolutely is. Sean (the younger brother, Will's campaign manager and the main character in this book) is shocked by his brother's untimely and mysterious change of heart and is frustrated by the seemingly out-of character decision. Sean's character that is easy to like and you as a reader are caught up in his family life, political problems and the feelings that he has of being the younger brother who can never match up. Sean's family is being targeted and it is up to Sean to figure out what is going on. If you like action books, this one is for you! I would give this book a 4.5/5 stars :)

This is the second book in The Worthington Destiny series. I had not read the first book in the series but I think I would have caught on a little quicker to what was happening if I had. Despite that this is a fantastic book. I love the Worthington family. I look forward to the next book in this series. This book is focusing on Sean. The first book focused on Will. The third book will focus on the sister. I am looking forward to reading the next book to see what other adventures these family members will have. I received a copy of this book from revell for a fair and honest opinion.

When I saw Dr. Leman's name on the cover of this book I expected the story to be about family relationships and more specifically birth order issues. I was right! When you add in author and political insider Jeff Nesbit this family drama also takes on a political suspense tone.

The Worthington family is full of complex relationships. Will and Sean Worthington, although brothers, couldn't be more different. In most instances their differences compliment each other but suddenly there is something that separates the two and causes strife. It's one of those things that has been an underlying element throughout their lives but due to circumstances that not everyone is aware of it comes to the forefront. No one that has known the details really speaks of it but the elephant is always in the room.

I didn't read the first book in the series, A Perfect Ambition, but I wish that I had. I would have enjoyed watching the complete story unfold. That book centered on firstborn son Will Worthington. A Powerful Secret is Sean's story. In the end I didn't feel like I missed any important details by only reading the second book but if you have the opportunity to read both I would highly recommend it. The third book, A Primary Decision, is youngest sister Sarah's story and it is due out this fall. I'll be eagerly snatching it up.

A Powerful Secret is the perfect read for anyone that enjoys an intense family drama. It's also the perfect book for those that love political intrigue. I enjoyed this book so much that I hope there are many more books to come from this duo.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
